Alternative co-operative community, Family home and garden - rural
Västra Götaland
In the middle of the small country side village of Uddebo lies a more than 100 year old factory called Väveriet. Since some years the factory is disused and we (Liv, Kalle, Zam, Disa, Eyal, Camille among others) have made this factory our workplace and have set out to save the building from decay and fill the building with life and to new possibilities.
There is something special going on in the village of Uddebo. The village is attracting young people from all over. Partly due to the many interesting and creative projects taking place, the diverse community and also due to cheap housing and all the indoor and outdoor space.
In the weaving mill, we are turning the 5500 sqm factory building into a creative space for various activities such as a yoga studio, makerspace (or electronic playground), music and art studios, ceramic workshop and a whole bunch of other creative initiatives run by people from the village.
This summer we will be doing the finishing touches on 2 art studios. There we will be building mosaic elements with clay and wood. We will paint walls and help set up a music and a farmers market event.
We also started a cozy bakery in the building and Fridays we have pizza night with wood fired Neapolitan pizza.
We have sheep who stay right next to the factory in the winter time and in the summer they are on other fields around the village.
The accommodation would be in a separate room in the weaving mill and you will eat with the host family who also live in the building or in the big common kitchen. While you are here, during the week you would be involved in helping with various projects that happen at the weaving mill. Tasks here can vary greatly depending on what needs to be done, but it can be anything from garden work, painting windows, helping with the sheep to renovation and building maintanance.
There is a lot to explore during your free time here. This summer, beside the weaving mill, new tiny houses are being built in different forms. There is a wood fired village sauna next to the river and you can swim in the river. There are also a couple lakes for swimming within biking distance. There are supermarkets and other service in Tranemo which you can reach by a nice bicycle ride on the old railroad bicycle path along the river. Other things to do in the village include kayaking in the river, take a walk on the nice trails in the forest, the trails start right by the factory. Yoga in the yogastudio. Learn about Uddebo Community Supported Agriculture and check out their beautiful veggie fields right below the weaving mill. As of 2025 they also have a shop and kitchen in the mill.
There is also a large field next to the factory that is cultivated communally.

Liv and Kalle are great hosts, I immideately felt welcomed when I arrived and I liked their energies. I also met some wonderful people during my five weeks stay, the other volunteers were all amazing ❤
What I mostly worked with was a wall ("The" wall 😉👑) that we built inside a studio, with clay and wooden bricks. It was fulfilling to see this creative experiment come together, and I learned a new building technique (that is environmental friendly) and got into some nice flow 🌿
It's also worth to mention how beautiful the surroundings are. The forests are absolutely gorgeous, with mossy rocks and running creeks, and there are some nice view points and hiking trails. As well as the river running through the village 🌊
Some downsides that I noticed were the lack of cleaning routines for the volunteers, when I arrived it was a bit of a mess and I found myself cleaning alot in my free time, in order to feel at home.
This was later brought up with the hosts, who agreed on that some cleaning routines needs to be established 👌
It can also be good to know that most jobs we did consisted of building, painting, moving stuff from one place to another, organizing, cleaning and general maintenance, indoors + outdoors.
If you're interested in learning about organic agriculture or self sufficiency, there might be other places that offer more of that.
Thank you Kalle and Liv for this experience and good luck with everything at Väveriet! ❤🏡

My entire experience at Väveriet with Kalle and Liv has been extremely positive.
With five hours of work (building maintenance, carpentry, painting, gardening, bioconstruction, etc.) well distributed, there was time to enjoy a morning walk and do things in the afternoon. The other wwoofers who soon-later became friends have made the experience even better. I'm going to miss the surrounding forests, mushroom picking, the sauna, and the morning ice-cold baths.
Thank you again for your kindness, your patient teaching, the endless food, and for showing me that another life outside of the urban is possible.

We spent three weeks in Uddebo at Väveriet and had a great time. The Village is something very special and impressive. While it is tiny, it is full of active, engaged and creative people looking for a way of living abroad from the industrious cities. While you will definitely sweat one or the other drop, Kalle and Liv are awesome hosts who care about your well being. You can also count on diverse types of work. The factory is huge and there are project on all ends. We can definitely recommend visiting Väveriet and dipping your toes in to the river and the village life. Whether for volunteering or for leisure.

I had the time of my life in Uddebo at Kalles and Livs place! I have only been there for a month but I made so many memories, not a day that went by was the same. One day we would work in the bakery and another we would help out at a concert or with restoring the building. I met so many new people in Uddebo. I felt a connection with the community because they were welcoming, kind and open minded. There were many local artists, musicians and other creative people, truely inspiring. Visiting a new area with only people you've never met before can be quite scary but I never felt that way. I think one of my favorite memories is the time were we (me and the other wwoofers as well as locals) would have campfires and share random stories and thoughts about life. Once it also ended in a music session at a local musicians place! It was so sweet! Another thing I really enjoyed and will remember was how we would always have lunch together on the working days. One of us would cook while the others were still working. We always ate 'warm' and where I come from that's not usual: we always eat bread for lunch. So this way lunch felt more special and I could really appreciate such small moments with the others. Once again sharing our stories and now also sharing good food! I can think of so many more sweet moments in Uddebo but this review is getting quite long so I think if you're planning on becoming a wwoofer you should go experience it for yourself! :-)

We had an incredible two weeks at Väveriet! We felt so embraced by Liv and Kalle and the other community members. We appreciated the variety of work which included: sign painting, bakery work, building a clay wall, painting and sanding windows frames, preparing the big hall for a jazz concert, and other odd jobs. We learned so much and enjoyed sharing meals with each other. We had a space to cook in a communal kitchen and also shared meals with Liv and Kalle regularly. We will forever be grateful for this experience and the new skills we gained in such a warm and welcoming environment. There are so many dreams alive in this place and it is incredible to watch them bloom here. We made lasting relationships here and hope to visit again! We highly recommend a stay at Väveriet!
