Hej! We’re looking for people who would like to be part of our farm Glädjefrid – with it’s animals and garden – while also enjoying the breathtaking nature on the island Orust on the Swedish west coast. We run a KRAV-labelled certified organic farm with chickens, sheep, cows, pigs, ducks, goats, working horses, dog and cats. We grow vegetables, take care of a forest garden and welcome overnight guests who are looking for peace and relaxation. We also run courses, workshops, guiding internships and have a farm shop with art and craft, our own homegrown and homemade products. Our focus is on living sustainably – growing as much of our own food as possible, becoming self-sufficient and improving biodiversity. Permaculture, regenerative and biodynamic farming are very close to our hearts. We believe in living with mutual respect, following our inner path and taking care of Mother Earth. The whole family – two adults and five children – is very much involved in the work and all of our projects. The children study or have studied at Järna Naturbruksgymnasium, Sweden, and support the farm with their knowledge of organic and biodynamic agriculture. We discuss, plan and work together, depend on each other. You will become part of our family and life on the farm. There is daily routine work that needs to be done, but also other tasks that come up depending on the season and unexpected situations. Farm work: Making hay, building fences, mucking out and feeding the animals. Gardening: Planting, weeding and preparing growing beds for flowers and vegetables. Forest work: Cutting and stacking firewood, planting trees and bushes. Building maintenance: Keeping our buildings in good condition – painting, renovating barns. So choose the area (or areas) you would like to work in! The most important thing is that you enjoy what you do and do it with joy, positive energy and enthusiasm. Respect, responsibility, reliability, honesty, loyalty, flexibility and integrity are our core values – and they need to be yours too. Please keep in mind that much of the work is physically demanding! We work together for around five hours a day, although this may vary depending on the task. Also remember that the climate on the west coast can be quite harsh. Rain gear and layering are recommended! You can stay in our “Chicken House” or in our “Wheel House” – two small cabins equipped with a bed, a stove and a small kitchen. A simple toilet and shower are located by the barn, and you will always have access to the main house. We provide everything you need for breakfast, lunch and dinner. You can prepare breakfast and dinner yourself, and we eat lunch together. We cook seasonally and locally, using our own vegetables and our own meat. Everything we buy is organic and fair trade. About us: After running a private school based on the Montessori pedagogic in Switzerland for more than twenty years, we decided to move to our summer house by the amazing Stigfjord on Mjörn, Sweden. That’s where our journey began – taking care of our animals, fields, vegetables and grazing land in the middle of a nature reserve with archipelago islands, old oak trees and the typical Bohuslän landscape. The 15 hectares on Mjörn are now used as summer pasture for our cows and sheep, and for our hay harvest. In the summer of 2025, we took over our dream farm, Glädjefrid – Joyful Peace. The farm is located half an hour from Mjörn on Orust. It includes 34 hectares of land divided into fields, forest, coastline, cliffs and a unique restored wetland. We love being outdoors – in the forest, in the mountains, around a campfire, out at sea in a kayak or a sailboat, picking wild herbs, berries and mushrooms, and doing crafts and handiwork. You are warmly welcome to become part of our adventures.

My period on Glädjefrid flew by! I was hosted by the friendly family during hay season which was intense but very rewarding. 🧑‍🌾Being part of the farm during its early revival was special and led to interesting conversations about sustainable agriculture. The activities were varied and carried out in dialogue according to weather, competence and favour. Positive energy, curiosity, community, creativity and mutual respect for people and planet throughout! 🌿

We got the chance to do all kinds of works around the farm. We took care of the differents animals, recolted some greens to dry for the goat, cut down some trees, painted the sheep stall, spend time in the garden and last but not least helped with making hay. In any case, for them, the most important is that we did what we were interrested in and that we each do it in our own rythm, take breaks. We spoke german and swedish (our preference), communication was never a problem. We also got the chance to go on different adventures and enjoying the beautiful nature on the island (visiting a traditional village, kayaking, swimming in the sea, ...). Simone and the whole family made sure that we felt warmly welcomed. We spend some lovely time with the family, eating lunch and often dinner together as well as celebrating midsommar. We were always welcome in the house, whether it is for talking, playing games or just being alone, reading, knitting in the couches. We also spend some time on our own in the hen's house, which is a confortable little red house with a kitchen, beds, couch, fireplace, etc. We felt quickly at home. We are very happy that we got to meet this family for our first woofing experience, we can only wish to have stayed longer!

My stay at Glädjefrid was wonderful. I felt very welcomed and like a part of the family! Simone and her family have only been living on the farm for less than a year, so because of that (and because working with different animals is inherently varied) the tasks I did had a lot of variation. Each morning started with feeding the various animals: cows, pigs, sheep, hens, etc. Then we ate breakfast together and discussed our plan for the day. I’ve done fencing, planting seeds and sprouts, watching ducklings be born, clear blackberries from the field, I’ve worked with the horses, painted inside the little house and various other little things. I could always choose what I liked best to do. I worked mostly together with the family, but also independent and Simone was very adamant that I take the breaks I need. I slept in the old hen’s house which was really comfortable and offered a nice place to retreat to. Henån is a 10min drive away and has a big grocery store, second-hand shop and whatever else you might need (tourist info, ice cream). I couldn’t have chosen a better farm and will miss them and the animals dearly ☀️🌿
