Just now we look for one or two (a couple or two friends who can share a room) for the period 13-27 July - for harvest of red and black currant, blueberries in the forrest, jam and fruit leather making and more. We need wwoofers for the summer harvest season, in particular July and August and we are open for requests in May, June and September when there are diverse things to do. Our farm is a clearing in the forest with a two households. We in one house and our daughter, son in law and two grandchildren in another small house plus some small farm buildings - no neighbours in sight. There is about 2 hectares of open land and we are slowly building up subsistance farming, but most of all constantly experimenting to match production with our needs to learn. We are self sufficient with vegetables, fruit and berries and firewood for heating. Grain and dairy products we buy. We borrow animals in the grazing season - sheep and shetland ponnies. To keep us over the winter we make preserves, ferment vegetables, make fruit leathers, jam, dried foods and we have an earth cellar and fill our freezers. We experiment a lot with food and what to grow to match production with needs. We also collect berries and mushrooms in the forrest. Our main crop is black currant and the season for that is last week in july. That is the most intense time - and then we like to have 2-3 wwoofers. Hans works as a consultant helping local government (municipalities) in Sweden to develop sustainable food systems. The farm is a combination of hobby, experimental ground and life style. Hans has a background as farm advisor, organic certification and with rural development. He has worked also in international projects and education of chefs and managers in public catering. He developed a method to see the farm as a complex ecosystem inspired by among other biodynamic principles. Birgitta has left her former work in social pedagogics to give more time to the farm. The nearest village is Järna (9 km), where there is an anthroposophic center nearby (16 km). Stockholm is 60 km away. It is possible to lend a bicycle and get to Järna train station with or making excursions. Organic methods: Almost no machines Certifications: We are only subsistence farm - very little to sell. Current projects: We started building a forrest garden from May 2025. Harvest of black and red currant, gooseberry, apples, plums and blueberries and lingonberries in the forrest and making jam and fruit leathers goes on in July and August. We start working days with breakfast together for all at 07.00, fika at 10.00 and lunch around 12-13. Afternoons and evenings we are more free - and wwoofers will make their own food with whatever is available in the garden, refrigerator and in storage. The same for free days. We make sure there is enough food in our storages - but wwoofers will make for themselves. We follow the seasons with food and take as much as we can from our garden. Internet access available

I had a very wonderful stay with Hans and Birgitta. They have a beautiful home and garden, and my room and the home were very clean. Hans has a great daily schedule set up, and he made sure to ask each volunteer about which tasks they were most interested in trying and which things they were interested in learning about. I had wonderful conversations with Hans and Birgitta and the other two volunteers over delicious meals and a daily fika. I have to eat gluten free, and Hans and Birgitta kindly accommodated the meals for me. The farm is located a short walk away from a lake and a nature reserve with hiking trails. My two week stay at this farm was relaxing, comfortable, fun, and filled with great conversations and delicious vegetables and berries! Thank you for sharing your home, organic farming wisdom, and lifestyle with me Hans and Birgitta!

My two weeks at this farm was an absolute delight. I learned so much about edible plants and the food was fantastic (I already miss my daily breakfast porridge). I’m also vegan and they made sure to cater to that however they could. The work that needed to be done ranged from gathering leaves to doing some hard labor digging (but Hans took into account my weak arms and made sure I didn’t overdo it! :) ) The accommodation was rustic like you would expect at a farm, but actually very comfortable. Everyone at the farm was so nice and lovely to be around. It was an absolute pleasure to be there and I will forever cherish the memories I created there. I highly recommend that if you want to volunteer at a farm near Stockholm, this is the place to go!

This was my very first woofing experience, and I had the chance to spend 3 months here. I truly enjoyed every moment from start to finish: the wide variety of activities allowed me to learn so much and to live enriching daily experiences. The days off were also a great opportunity to discover this beautiful country. Hans and Birgitta are both very kind and welcoming, which made the stay even more special. Thank you again for this memorable experience ! :)

My two weeks on Hans and Birgitta's farm were fantastic! I immediately felt very welcome and was reluctant to leave at the end. I was able to try out many different things, especially harvesting a lot, picking blueberries and mushrooms in the forest and processing various fruits. Thank you for this wonderful experience in your paradise and for welcoming me with open arms! Also thanks for the best fika breaks! I really hope to come back one day!
