Welcome! At Alsike prästgård we grow vegetables and cut flowers in an market garden of ca 10.000 square meter. We have several greenhouses. The main greenhouse is heated and 430 square meter. We also have caterpillar tunnels. We have a big varity of crops and like to experiment with different types of cultivation. Everything is organically certified. There are horses and cattle (Black Angus) on the farm. Alsike prästgård is situated 4 km from the small town Knivsta. It’s about 15 km to Uppsala and 50 km to Stockholm. It’s a good location to explore parts of middle Sweden from. We live in a beautiful country area with ample possibilities for trekking and outdoor activities. There’s a small lake on the farm with a jetty suitable for swimming. We need help the whole season (may - okt). We work together with planting, transplanting, weeding, tending plants, harvesting, packing vegetables in baskets and selling through our farm store and CSA delivering system. Standard woofing work hours are between 08.30 – 13.00 Monday to Friday. We are however very flexible and allow a lot of freedom under responsibility with regards to scheduling your days. Often you prepare your own meals but sometimes we eat together. Woofers share a shower, bathroom and kitchen. There is wifi connection. It’s easy to access other parts of Sweden through the railway in Knivsta (10 min to Uppsala, 30 min to Stockholm). You can borrow bicycles from us. We speak Swedish and English fluently. There are several families staying at the farm. Some engaged in the organic farm. You will mostly work with Pär and Fritjof who work with the vegetables. Other people at the farm works with “farming big”: Cereals and peas. It is also people working with Black Angus cattle and the horse stable. Certifications: KRAV Internet access available

Alsike Trädgård is situated 4 km west of the small town Knivsta. It’s about 15 km to Uppsala and 50 km to Stockholm. The best way to get here is by train from Stockholm or Uppsala: Train stop Knivsta. But look out, not all train stop at Knivsta terminal.

I had the best time at Alsike Trädgård, Par and Fritjof could not have been more hospitable and kind. I learned many things about ecological farming and met a range of great characters. The laid-back atmosphere and surroundings made for a much-needed break after a stressful final year of university. The accomodation was perfect, no issues whatsoever. I feel inspired to continue learning about ecology/farming/crofting in Scotland upon returning from my time at Alsike Trädgård. I wish everyone there all the best and hope to see them again in the future.

It was a really wonderful 1 month stay. We two felt very welcomed. We could learn and enjoy the organic market garden a lot. It was so nice for us to have experience such as planting many kinds of organic vegetables outside and working in the greenhouse with tomatoes and cucumbers. Fritjof and Pär were both wonderful person. They talked to us with kindness and humor and took a lot of care. There were one other woofer and an internship student working together. They were also nice. We could also enjoyed fika and lunch and some after work time. The accommodation was also good. Very cozy and comfortable place close to the farm like 1 min walk. The kitchen was built outside next to the greenhouse and it was also exciting. We could feel a nice outside air and calm breeze. We would really recommend this place if you want to learn organic market garden and enjoy days with the nice people. Masaki and Fumina

I visited Alsike Tradgard for one month and I could not recommend this farm more. I feel so blessed to have stayed and worked on the farm and to have met Par and Fritjof. The work was mild, about 4 hours a day. You will learn lots here while having fun at the same time. Par is the sweetest most accommodating person you can ever meet, if you have any problems or need anything he is there. Par is so kind and fun to goof around with, if you love laughing then you will adore him. Fritjof is awesome to work with, I don't think I ever caught him in a bad mood. He is very open minded and is great to have intellectual conversations with. Fritjof always knows the best places to explore and will let you in on all the sights to see. I loved eating lunch everyday with the crew and going on adventures together. There are so many beautiful places to explore, it truly is a paradise. The farm is very close to Knivsta which makes it great to hop on a train to the city. Go to Alsike Tradgard!!!

In the midst of the pandemic, I escaped from the urban environment and stayed at Alsike Trädgården for a month. It was a beautiful experience, full of physical work, learning some agricultural technologies and the Swedish language. Pär and Frischiop are welcoming hosts and have the patience to listen to you and explain how to work in a team. I was not lucky enough to meet other volunteers because of the closed borders and housing problems, but I hope that next summer it will be better and repeat this ecological escape. Be positive and it's good to be well. Good luck.
