Welcome to Trädgårds! This is not really a farm, but a really small scale vegetable garden and a few chickens and rabbits. We used to have a big farm nearby for 7 years where we had WWOOFers for 6 of those years, but the workload and money needed to keep it going became too much. Anyway, the story behind the name of the our property is that gardeners lived here (Trädgårds = the home of gardeners, loosely translated) and we have a patch where we grow vegetables and some flowers and have apple trees. We also pick berries and mushrooms. The place is basically a regular house with a big-ish garden and a garage (with a little chicken coop) where we keep the chickens and rabbits and have as a workshop with all the tools and such. The property is pretty secluded between a farm and another house down from a road with a bus station 300 meters up the gravel road. In the house there’s four bedrooms, they have beds but one is used as a yoga room, one is Annelie’s hobby room and the other is Truls’ music room. In the cellar there’s a kind of rehearsal space, but there’s no band as of now. Truls makes music on the computer though, and Annelie’s main interest is textile handicraft. As for prepping and general usefulness we’ve also built an outdoor toilet and are currently building a log house that’s just had the roof on it but everything else remains to be done. We’re also wanting to build a root cellar when we can afford to build one. We also have a dog (half German shepherd, half golden retriever) and two cats. Around the little town of Österfärnebo there’s a couple of things happening, main interests would be a small scale vegetable farming collective and we also have yoga at the town house. There’s the usual grocery store, a gym, a pizzeria and a kiosk also. Maybe some woofers could also help out at farms close by, but we don’t have any kind of agreement like that really, we just know some farmers. There’s also plenty of lakes where you can swim, fish or just be, and the Färnebofjärden national park/nature reserve. Annelie works as a teacher and Truls is home all the time due to an illness called CMT. We speak Swedish, Norwegian, English and Annelie speaks pretty good Spanish (she’s a Spanish teacher). For the time being we’re mainly looking for someone who is somewhat skilled in carpentry for the log house, but might consider others also depending on the time of year and things.

I highly recommend this farm. Annelie and Truls are so sweet and friendly. I felt like I'm at home while I stayed in Backas. Their place was perfect for my last WWOOFing in Sweden. I sheared sheep and fed animals. I took out old stemps with Truls. We finished the work making a ditch too. The thing I most liked was walking around the forest which is really beautiful with Izo( super nice dog). For pleasure, I took ATV in the forest with Paul. also, I watched Swedish movie with Truls and Annelie. Thanks to them, I had a lot of good memories. Tack! Tack! Plus, If you visit them, They might introduce you black metal :D

I spent one wonderful week at Truls and Annelies farm and wish I had had time to be there for at least another week! They are super friendly and it isn't hard at all to feel at home at their place. They are nice to work with and willingly invited me to all sorts of stuff to do in the free time. Annelie brought me to her wool association for a lovely evening with her friends and making of "midsummer poles"! I had so much fun!! They also brought me with them to neighbours and family. Their farm is situated in a beautiful place with lots of forest to go hiking in. I would absolutely recommend to go visit Truls and Annelie, they are two wonderful people in a beautiful place! Tack så mycket för att ni tog imot mig, och tack för alla goda råd!! Ha det fint så syns vi nästa gång!

Truls and Annelie are SO COOL. And Backas Gård is gorgeous! There are so many woods to explore around the farm and in which to forage for mushrooms and berries. My goal with this farm was to learn about sheep and work with wool products, and I definitely did. Annelie is a patient and kind teacher in all things sheep-related. I learned how to wash and spin wool and sat knitting with her many a night. The Backas animals are heartbreakingly adorable and I miss Izo, Fia, and Roffe basically all the time. Backas Gård is a good farm to go to if you want a lot of leisure time to hang out in the woods, read, write, play music, and snuggle animals.

You just have to love Backas i Trösken! Truls and Annelie are such friendly, generous, open-minded, straightforward, great people who do a whole lot of interesting things - keeping the whole place going, doing all sorts of handicrafts, building stuff, making music... I never got bored and I never felt isolated. The place is beautiful - no traffic noise, a lot of forest, a lot of nature - and it is full of life. I met a bunch of lovely people within those two weeks and I got to see quite a few interesting places in the area. I really felt at home. Truls, Annelie, Izo, it was great fun with you. I miiiiiiiiisssssss you!!!!!

I spent 2 weeks at backas which was great fun! I learned a lot, so thank you two for showing and explaining so much (about farming & swedish culture) - for the good work and the good fikas. I am recommening this farm to 100% to anyone who likes to be with open and culturally-interested people. Thanks also for our evenings of cooking, laughing, watching movies and having great conversation about music! I am very much looking forward to come back next year Take care & enjoy the österfarneborg / arsunda rest of the summer & fall!

The week I spent in Sweden at Backas farm was a sweet and genuine experience that I will cherish forever. Thank you so much annelie & truls for the incredible hospitality and for being so honest and teaching me so much. I would recommend this farm to anyone who is looking to learn about Swedish culture, enjoy a calm and laid back farming experience, and meet incredible hosts and create lasting friendships. Thanks for everything you two!
