Certified organic fruit and berry farm by lake Åsnen. Learn gardening, jam making & apple juice
Kronoberg
We are a small farm in the South East of Sweden, growing mainly fruit and berries for manufacturing, but also some vegetables and other plants mainly for our own use. Besides tending the vegetables, plants and trees and other garden work, we produce and sell our own marmelade, jam, juice, jellies and other edibles in our farm shop. Everyting is small-scale and locally produced. In the autumn the main occupation is to pick apples to produce our own apple-juice. We who live here are Björn and Charlotte, and we also have three kids in their twenties. Animals on the farm are two dogs, three cats and some chickens. Besides this we have a pait of holiday houses and an small apartment that we rent out for summer guests. Malva Farm is located in an area well visited by tourists and during the summer months many come to enjoy hikes in the beautiful nature and fishing or canoing on lake Åsnen. There are a lot of protected wildlife in this region, specially birds due to the closeness to the large lake. Malva Farm is situated approximately 40 km south of Växjö and the same distace north of Karlshamn, two medium-sized cities that are well worth visiting. We would like some help from WWOOF;ers during June-Oct. The minimum stay for you. are two weeks, or hopefully more. We expect 6 hours work, five days a week. Sometimes you may need to be a little flexible about the time, but it´s never more than 30 hours a week and with two days off. You will have your own living area with toilet and a small kitchen for making breakfast. Lunch and supper we usually all eat together. On your free time you can go swimming in the lake, use the canoe or a small boat and equipment for fishing. There are also lots of nice wildlife experiences, hiking or cykling, and the small village of Urshult is just 6km away.
Organic methods: Mechanical remove of weed. We use some feromones sometimes to confuse pests on apples. We also use some biological treatments, like bacteria, (but only if needed, not preventive). We try to focus on biological diversity as a method for keeping the balance instead.
Certifications: KRAV
Current projects: During the summer 2025, We are planning to develope a new visit garden and also build a new greenhouse. Blueberrypicing, raspereries, blackcurrant as well. This autumn we need some help with picking apples. Hope that there are some wooffers out there that would like to come and help us in the orchard picking fruit by the lake, enjoying the outdoor activities and the last summer days. There will also be oportunities to learn more about apple juice making etc. for those interested!! In november 2022 we won the Swedish championchip in making applejuice. Let´s see if we can do that again, this year!

Easiest is to fly to Copenhagen, take the train to Växjö, Sweden, and we will come and pick you up at the train station in Växjö. You can also go by bus to Tingsryd or Urshult.

I stayed at Malva Gård for 3 months and it was a wonderful experience. It was my first time alone in a foreign country and I'm so happy about how it turned out. Charlotte and Björn are amazing hosts. They welcomed me warmly and really made me feel like I was part of the family during my time here.
I mainly worked with Björn and the work was very diverse. Every day was different according to what needed to be done and the weather. It went from weeding to making woodlogs, repairing fences or picking berries. I liked that I got to try so many different things, and Björn was very patient with me. As I was very interested in food processing, I also got to make some marmalades with Charlotte.
We shared meals and fika (which I now know is the most important thing of the day ;)). The food was always delicious. Charlotte cared a lot about what I liked to eat, she always rememberd when I mentioned liking or not liking something in a conversation, which I found very kind.
The accomodations are comfy and spacious, on a separate building from the main house which gives you some privacy. I could also borrow a bike to go visit around the place. The region is beautiful, I never got bored of the numerous views of the lake you can get. You can also go for a swim, which is really nice during hot summer days.
I can only say good things about this place. I find it truly inspiring what Charlotte and Björn have managed to build there and I felt so lucky to be part of this for 3 months.

This was my first wwoof experience and I feel happy about it.
There are plenty of positive things to say about this experience.
Bjorn and Charlotte made sure I would have anything I could have needed. They have never complained about a task I would have done slowly or wrong. They shared every tasks with me. Charlotte managed to think of a different meal each super for a whole month. There was food way enough. I had my own place and privacy at any moment. I could use a bike. They told me of places I could visit. They took me to market places and Växjö if I wanted, as they would go there, or even drive me to a bus station and pick me back whenever I would send them a message... As well as many more things. Obviously, I think they take care of their wwoofers as they would for their own children.
Concerning work, I worked from 9h00 (because I'm not a morning person) to 15h00 or around and we had break around 13h00 for lunch, as well as most of the time around 10h30. A plan of the tasks was given to me each week so I could know what we were going to do. There would be tasks for inside or outside, depending on the weather. The tasks were various and according to the priorities. I had been weeding (of course), but I also repaired a boat, created a place for small fishes to grow safe in the lake in order to use them later as baits, fix a bridge in water, saw woodlogs...
I simply wish I could have had a good friend to share leisure time as well as all those nice things.
Thanks!

The time on Malva Gård was wonderful. The time I was there was mainly about apple and pears and the whole process from apple harvesting to the finished apple juice was very interesting. Besides the apple harvest, there were also other small tasks, so the overall work was very varied.
In addition, Charlotte and Björn are very lovely people, so I always felt very welcome on the farm.
The icing on the cake of my stay was the food, which was really tasty.
Thank you very much for this unforgettable time!

I can just agree to all the former Wwoofers comments. I’ve stayed at Malva Gård for a month and I had a very nice time with Charlotte and Björn and their dogs and cats.
Both Charlotte and Björn are very kind, open-minded and relaxed people and I totally enjoyed spending time with them!
Charlotte also teaches biology and knows a lot about it, so it was always interesting to listen to her and the things she could tell :)
Regarding the tasks at the farm, I mainly helped with apple-picking and making applejuice, but we also did other things like preparing for the markets or taking away weed.
In the mornings, we always had a fika (because Björn takes this very seriously :)) and in the evenings we cooked together.
The dishes were different every day und Björn und Charlotte use a lot of their own vegetables and seasonal food, which I really enjoyed.
So to put everything into a nutshell, I had a very good time at Malva Gård and definitely recommend it to other Wwoofers! Especially if you don’t have any WWOOFing-experience yet, I think it is a nice place to start.
I already miss Charlotte and Björn and their dogs and cats so much and I would always come back myself.

I spent a month at Malva Gard and had a wonderful time there. Charlotte and Björn are very welcoming and open hosts who live together with their two dogs and three cats. I loved going on walks with the dogs and having the company of the cats.
In general I felt in good hands there. It almost felt like a second family to me, helping with cooking and eating the meals together.
During workdays I helped mostly with the whole process around apples - picking them, making juice out of them and sell them on different markets.
But there were also a lot of work with storing the woodlocks for the upcoming winter season, picking other types of berries, painting gates, working on the new parking project and repairing green houses. If you look for a variety in work Malva Gard won’t disappoint you.
Thank you Charlotte and Björn that I could stay at your farm and to everyone else who considers going there, just do it! I can’t recommend it enough 💛

I had a really good time on the beautiful farm from Charlotte & Björn. I'm super happy that they could have me so short term. I mainly helped with apple picking and sometimes I had company from their two dogs or Charlotte, Björn and also their family. They also showed me the whole process of juice making in their Musteri.
The area is super beautiful and ideal for hikes, bike or kanu tours.
Thank you for including me the ten days in your home!
