Lakeside Permaculture Farm near Stockholm Welcome to our small farm located 90 km west of Stockholm, near Malmköping, at the end of a quiet road by Lake Skundern. The farm covers three hectares of fields, pasture and woodland, with traditional buildings, a lakeside yoga studio and greenhouses in development. It is a peaceful place surrounded by forest and water. We are a Belgian-Swedish couple living here permanently. I work with art and am trained in permaculture design and vegan cooking in France. My husband is a hot air balloon pilot with extensive experience restoring old houses. Our son sometimes stays at the farm, where he is building small houses and a music studio. Our garden is always evolving. We are developing a sustainable lifestyle using ecological and gentle methods inspired by permaculture principles. We cultivate vegetables, herbs, fruits and flowers while restoring old buildings with traditional techniques and natural materials. Throughout the year we also welcome small groups for yoga and vegan cooking retreats. As a WWOOFer, you will take part in daily farm life. The tasks vary with the season and may include gardening, planting, harvesting, foraging herbs and mushrooms, painting and restoring buildings, repairing fences, baking bread and preparing meals together. We are looking for engaged and curious people with a genuine interest in sustainability and nature, willing to work around five hours per day. We usually host two WWOOFers at a time for a minimum stay of two weeks. Accommodation is either in a comfortable guest house or in a charming small cabin by the lake, depending on availability. The main houses have electricity, heating, fully equipped kitchens and bathrooms. We share most meals and cook vegetarian and vegan food together. In your free time, bicycles and a rowing boat are available, and it is easy to travel to Eskilstuna and Stockholm by public transport. If this sounds like a place where you would like to contribute and learn, please write to us and tell us a little about yourself, what you hope to experience here and how you would like to take part in our projects. Internet access is available. We are closed for wwoofers from September until May.

Ekeby est vraiment THE place to be pour un wwoofing! Un lieu magique et des hôtes au top! Merci beaucoup Chantal et Jan pour votre accueil si chaleureux ! Ce fut un plaisir de partager une partie de votre quotidien durant mon périple en Scandinavie. Au plaisir de vous revoir!

This was my first time woofing and I had a very pleasant experience in Ekeby. My tasks included weeding, gathering berries, but also plants for tea, painting of houses and mowing. Like the other people already commented, the food was very delicious (thank you again Chantal!) and Chantal and Jan made sure we would get to visit the surrounding villages and get to experience Swedish culture. I also wanted to practice my French, and Chantal and Jan respected my wish and talked in French to me and also put up with my not so perfect French. When I wanted to take a walk, a bike tour, a canoe tour or visit Stockholm Chantal showed me a good route and gave me lots of wonderful recommendations! (The bikes and canoe were placed at our disposal :)) So overall if you want to experience the calm Swedish countryside while working a variety of tasks, I recommend going to Chantal and Jan!

We had a lovely stay with Chantal! During the weekdays, we would discuss what tasks needed to get done in the day (always ~5 hours). She is a wonderful cook, and the food was always delicious. We were able to explore their property and use their bikes and boat whenever we wanted. It was very peaceful, and we will miss Ekeby a lot!

Chantal

We had an amazing time in Ekeby! Chantal is a very lovable person, a great chef, knows a lot about plants and permaculture and is the best local guide around. We did all sorts of activities at Ekeby, from scratching off old paint to applying new paint on the amazing Swedish barns at Ekeby, to cutting down weeds, grass and small trees. It was not WWOOFing in a traditional way (with a primary focus on agriculture) but also about maintaining houses and sheds the local way: something we really liked! To us it felt like a wholesome experience on all sorts of activities that you face when you live in a place like Ekeby. Staying over at the separate house was great. It had all the necessities inside to make our stay at Ekeby very comfortable. All the conversations we’ve had with both Chantal and her family and friends were very influential in shaping our dream to make Sweden our future home. We will probably make use of the opportunity to drop by at Ekeby next year! Thank you Chantal for these wonderful experiences. Wishing you all the best! Lennard & Joeri

The stay at Chantals Farm was fantastic. It´s a true nature paradise and our own house was wonderful! I was there together with my best friend and we enjoyed the tasks we got a lot. It varied between caring about the garden, some repair work or baking bread. The working time of 5h is super flexible so that we could enjoy the close by lakes for a sun and swim day when it was nice weather. Chantal is a wonderful, caring person and created a welcoming and close atmosphere from the beginning while maintaining our own privacy. She even showed us around the neighborhood and took us on some trips.
