Farm in the mountains
Jämtland
We are a couple from Austria and we live since january 2014 in the middle of the Swedish nature together with around 24 Alaskan Huskies.
Sometimes we expect guests from all over the world at our farm, mainly from Germany.
Our farm is in the middle of now-where at the beginning of Swedish Lapland in the wilderness and you can expect a lot of nature, lakes, woods and a lot of wild animals like bears, lynx, moose, reindeers and many different kind of birds.
We are looking for help for january with training, feeding the dogs and cleaning the kennels. You should be a teamplayer, speak german or have at least B2 with your english skills and you should also be able to work sometimes alone. There is plenty of spare time, to explore the nature and the surrounding.
What we offer is accommodation in a cabin with bathroom and toilet. And you will get groceries from us which you can cook for yourself. You will get a lot of informations about how it is to live in the wilderness, the nature, swedish culture and all about our dogs.
We are looking forward to hear from you / Petra & Walter

I spend nine day at Svansele farm this august, unfortunately I had to leave a little early.
In the kennel the work consisted of cleaning the enclosures, giving food and water, tasks which invariably involves interacting with some very energetic dogs, some very happy to be cuddled, whereas some were more reserved, each with their own personality.
Apart from the dogs, when I was there we did mow the lawn, clean the guesthouse and other little practical things that needed doing. The work is not hard and there was lots of spare time to go for hikes in the beautiful surroundings. There are no trails so there is lots of opportunity to get off track once you leave the gravel road. This is a beautiful and very quiet area of Sweden.

I had a very good time with Petra and Walter and they were very welcoming. They live in a very remote place in the middle of the Swedish wilderness, surrounded by beautiful nature. I also enjoyed taking care of the dogs and starting to know them a bit, even if it was just for a short time. I would definitely recommend the place to people who like taking care of dogs and spending time in nature. I hope I would be able to come back in winter!

Svansele Gård is a beautiful little space in the middle of nowhere in the north of Sweden. You’ll live in a little cabin with with rooms for 2 volunteers and a shared bathroom. Right next to you will be the area with kennels of the dogs. They are all very nice and extremely beautiful. I really enjoyed to get to know all their different characters and behaviours. I was very lucky because in the 3 weeks I was there there were 16 Puppies.
The daily life is not so exhausting, at least in summer. Each day you start with cleaning the kennels and refreshing their water. After that you do whatever needs to be done. Mainly some small repairs and walking the dogs.
Some days you’ll work in the morning and afternoon but also a lot of time you have the afternoon off and you are able to explore the surroundings( rivers, lakes, mountains)
Petra ans Walter are also very happy to borrow you a tent or are doing some outings on the weekend on which you can come along.
Due to some miss communication I left the farm a little earlier than planned. But I still recommend this place because the first 2 weeks I enjoyed my stay very much.

If it is a true and excitement-filled adventure you are seeking then spending time at Svansele Gård is for you. Yes you may be designated poop-scooper for the time you are there, you will however be rewarded with not just the love of a very hospital family but you will also be accepted into an even more loving, forty-five strong sledge-dog (almost wolf) pack. Expect easy and slow breakfasts, well deserved lunches and wholesome dinners. Expect wet kisses from dogs. Expect very cold temperatures aided by log fires. Expect the cathartic simplicity of solitude with the piercing sound of silence. Expect epic expeditions into breath-taking landscapes. Expect an absolutely amazing experience. Much love from Mr Fearghal

I really enjoyed my stay at Svansele Gård with Petra and Walter, and I will highly recommend this host to anyone who wants to make an effort taking care of animals and working in nature, as well as experience the beautiful countryside of wonderful Jämtland. Thank you so much for your kindness and for a great experience!
