Alternative co-operative community, Communal Living, Educational Centre
Dalarna
This is a centre for culture, learning, alternative living, and home to a small community. Situated in a scenic landscape in Dalarna, Sweden, this century old building hosts courses and events all throughout the year. It is a 3 000 sqm big house with close to fifty rooms, the forest right behind and eight kilometers to the town of Falun. There is a big kitchen, dining hall, guest rooms, a hall for conferences, yoga, concerts etc, a carpentry, a small cinema and much more.
This center is foundation based and its guiding principals are Solidarity, Self-reliance, and Resource preservation. The house has played a huge role in the Swedish environmental movement since the 80s, which we are continuing to this day. We host workshops, courses in forest ecology and gardening, host groups that does yoga, meditation and dancing, sometimes conferences and music events.
We have a vegetable garden and a forest garden, where we grow ecological vegetables and flowers. There is help needed in the garden from May to September. There are always repair- and renovation projects going on all year around, and practical persons are most welcome.
The course center is usually busy at the weekend. Therefore, we will need more help at the weekend and the volunteers are free to take a couple of free days during the week. We offer accommodation and food in exchange for about 30 hours a week volunteering time.
Alcohol and drugs are prohibited in and around the house (tobacco is allowed on designated smoking area outside). Snus are to be disposed off in garbage bins only. Cigarette buds are to be disposed off in ashtrays in the designated smoking area.
The house is an eco friendly place. All the food we serve is vegetarian.
The common areas and the floor can be a little cold. It is therefore suggested that you bring slippers and warm clothes during the winter.

I had my first WWOOF experience in Lindsberg. So even though I can't compare it to any other host I think it's quite an unique experience to work there. I have to admit that it took me some time to "get into the flow", since I'm used to have strict instructions while working (in a lab) and at Lindsberg it is quite the opposite. However, after the first period I felt very comfortable there and enjoyed to work freely. So as it is written in the description, someone who likes to work independent and who prefers to take own initiatives will love it there!
What I'll keep in good memory of Lindsberg are definitively the people who are living there, I was immediately accepted as one of them (rather than a guest) and it became like a second home to me. Also the house itself with its history is amazing and a great place to stay, not to forget the surrounding nature! I hope I'll have the chance to visit some time in the future.
Thanks to each one of you – it was a pleasure to meet you all.

My time at Lindsberg was wonderful. I enjoyed learning about the history of the place and seeing how life there was organized. Most of the work I did there was in the kitchen and garden. There was delicious dinners served everyday and the hosts were very understanding and accommodating of my needs. I want to go back next year. Thank you guys for everything!

We really enjoyed our stay at Lindsberg. We often worked independently which suited us just fine. Did a variety of tasks like cleaning up an outdoor area, shovel soil and plant grass, burn piles, prepare the chicken coop, cook, clean and do dishes for a big group. There was little focus on agriculture during our stay (may). The atmoshpere was open and friendly, We felt welcome and appreciated. Our five-year old really enjoyed it, great safe haven for kids to run around freely and find new precious friends.
Food was really good and abundant, luxuries we're not used to in the spring like fresh fruits and veggies :)
Thankyou Daniel, Sanna, Sole, Pablo, Kinna, Lo Matilda and the rest of the bunch for some wonderful two weeks! Hope to see you again one day!

We had a real real great time at Lindsberg. The place is as beautiful as you can imagine, the lake was still warm for swimming in september, the woods were full of berries... The house and the garden are just amazing, and every work we were doing was an enriching experience. All the people living there were very, very nice and warm, including the four amazing, sweet children.
We also found a good solution adepting the working plans to our slightly different situation as a wwoofing family.
We definitely do recommed this place, and if possible, we will be very, very happy to return! Best regards
Anna, Christoph, and the children :)
