Family farm
Uppsala
We, Stella, Nisse, Sammi, Manou and Nila are a young family that moved to our small farm in Månkarbo ten years ago (50 km north of Uppsala). We have had wwoofers for several years and it has been a great succes, so now we are looking forward to the next season. On our farm there are always lot of things going on which gives you visitors the possibility to choose what to focus on. We grow many different kinds of vegetables, so land preparation, sowing, weeding and harvesting are obvious tasks. We have bees so you can help out in taking care of them and harvesting honey, and we also got a lot of different construction work going on, buildning a stable, a sauna etc. In autumn we sell vegetables and honey at local markets and on the farm. We got five working horses on the farm which we use as much as possible in the gardening and in the forestry. We also have a lot of fun driving them on tours with a cart in the summer and a sleigh in winter!
In addition to this, we wish to share the daily work with you e.g. taking care of the chickens, horses and cooking. Food here is vegetarian/vegan. Accomodation is in a nice wooden caravan 300 meters from our house. There is no electricity there, but there are loads of candles and a nice wood burner if it gets cold at night :) If there are more woofers than can fit there, some of you can sleap in our house aswell! Having enjoyed being wwoofers ourselves we are happy to have the opportunity to host other wwoofers. We see woofing as a sweet mix of physical work and socializing! Families with children are also welcome! Our children are 8, 12 and 15 years old. Due to environmental reasons, we prefere to host woofers who travel here by rail if possible (or something else environmentally friendly)!
Organic methods: Mechanical weeding, non chemical pest control, organic manure
Current projects: All summer we have lots of work in the garden! We try to work half days in the garden and the second half with other tasks like construction work, hay making, stacking wood or picking berries. As much as possible we try to fullfill wishes from the wwoofers.

It was our first Wwoof stay. Stella, Nisse, Sammi, Manu and Nila, Everyone was kind and friendly, and we had a wonderful time. There was a wide variety of works such as caring for animals, planting, weeding, watering the fields, repairing structures, cooking, painting wall planks and so on. We could choose what we wanted to do. We are very grateful that it was very easy and relaxed to proceed the works because Stella and Nisse always talked to us on a suggestion basis and listened us well. We totally wouldn't have to worry.
They listened carefully to our weak English from Japan, listened to the Swedish we had just learned, and kindly taught us.
We were glad that we had many opportunities to interact with children.
It was good during the meals, they talked to us openly sometimes with humor.
After a day's work and on days off, we were able to enjoy their family life and the surrounding nature by taking walks, going out together, cycling, canoeing and so on.
We highly recommend here for those who are going to wwoof for the first time, who want to experience organic farming, family farming, DIY, Swedish nature experience, etc.
Finally, we want to say thank you so much again to Stella and Nisse.
We hope that we would visit here again in the future opportunity.

When we arrived in the evening, Nisse, Manou and Nila were already coming our way to pick us up. We insantely felt warmheartedly welcomed. After just a quick and easy introduction to the other Wwoofers, we started preparing a meal together. Just a few hours after escaping the pulsing citylife, we now sat there - 11 people in total - and enjoyed dinner under those beautiful plumtrees. What a great start into our first Wwoof experience! We had a wonderful time with the whole family and the other Wwoofers. Turned out it wasn't the last time we'd eaten all together. We spent an evening in the baking house making Pizza, singing bonfire songs and joking around. One other day we had a fire on a clearing in the forest and grilled veggie Hot Dogs. Needless to say we got there on the classy horse-drawn carriage. It was many moments of this kind that became unforgettable memories. Of course we also worked: picking onions and laying them out to dry, piling wood, fermenting vegetables, insolating and painting the children's rooms, feeding the chicken and weeding in the garden. But you see, it was varying and not too hard work. When you are four people doing the work, it mostly gets fun. One of the best things were the "ur-geile" vegetables and selfmade honey; also "ur-gut"! We had a lot of fun living, eating and working in the red wooden houses with so openminded people. Thank you Nisse and Stella for always providing Knäckebrot and hosting us. Please relay a spezial thankyou to Ida for letting us stay with her!

First wwoofing experience, could not expect any better! A homey and family atmosphere that makes one feel comfortable from the first minute. They are wonderful hosts and their house/farm gives the opportunity to work on various tasks. Very nice surroundings and easy to reach Uppsala. The only thing one should keep in mind: it is very easy to get stuck and never want to leave!! Thank you for this summer, see you again soon!

Hej!
I spent one week with Stella, Nisse and the kids this summer and now finally i take my time to write a reference (which i really want to do because i had a great time in månkarbo!). I felt very welcome, was invited to all the family activities and had varying tasks. I almost never worked alone and there was a lot of tasty food from the garden and eggs from the own hens. Stella and Nisse are very open minded and relaxed people with values and attitudes which i highly identify with. I am really happy i found them close to where i live and i will definitely come back!!
