Traditional 1840s mountain farm with cows, forest and great views. Welcoming LGBTQ+
Dalarna
We are Tommy and Kent, a gay couple living on a mountain. We live on a small farm in the middle of nowhere, as early WWOOFers used to joke.
We have three guest bedrooms, so most WWOOFers will probably have their own room.
A Day on the Farm
A typical day starts with breakfast, followed by moving the cows to their grazing spots. Then we tackle various tasks, such as carpentry (both indoors and outdoors), chopping firewood, repairing fences, or handling whatever else needs to be done.
Our farm is a typical Swedish farm, resembling how farms looked about 100 years ago. It was built in 1842, is surrounded by forest, and offers beautiful views from its higher spots.
Tommy works at a healthcare center in Ludvika but stays at home most of the summer. Kent is at home most of the time, managing the day-to-day farm operations.
We hand-milk our cows morning and evening (part of the year, the calves get most of the milkwe do not milk this season-25. )The farm provides us with milk, meat, and eggs for personal use, as we are not commercial farmers. Recently, we’ve also started a small vegetable garden.
Welcoming Environment
LGBTQ+ people are very welcome-26
Food and Allergies
Since we mainly eat what we produce, our meals consist of our farm’s own meat, milk, eggs, and vegetables. Unfortunately, we are unable to accommodate vegetarians or vegans.
For allergy sufferers, please note that we have dogs and cats. If your allergies prevent you from doing work on the farm, our farm is probably not the right place for you.
On the days you are off, you can take care of your own food.
Farm Life
To maintain a good sense of well-being, we all pitch in to clean shared spaces, such as the kitchen and bathrooms, and we take turns cooking meals. Lunch is a communal event, and afterward, we might take a short trip to explore nearby places.
There’s a small lake in the forest nearby, perfect for swimming on warm days. Evenings are often spent with friends who come by for dinner made with homemade ingredients or just to chat.
Current Projects
Maintaining an almost 200-year-old farm is a never-ending process. Current tasks include:
Painting buildings
Building fences
Storing hay
Chopping firewood
Restoring buildings (using natural materials whenever possible)
Cultivating garden beds
Clearing slides
Picking berries and mushrooms (in autumn)
We always have a variety of tasks available, so we’re sure to find something you enjoy doing.
Organic Practices
We use composting and an organic waste system, but we haven’t applied for any formal certifications yet.
Internet Access
Internet is available on the farm.
we are closed for the season and will open at the end of April-26
We’re looking forward to hearing from you and welcoming you to our farm!

This summer has been one of the best experiences of our lives. My boyfriend and I spent unforgettable days at Tommy and Kent’s beautiful farm. Our mornings started with breakfast and then helping out with farm work — chopping wood, cutting hay in the fields, trimming branches, taking care of the animals,or painting the house. Some days we wandered into the forest to pick mushrooms and berries, which were just delicious.
Kent (not Tommy, let’s just say Tommy’s cooking skills still have some room for improvement) cooked the most amazing Swedish meals, and every evening ended with laughter, poker games, and warm conversations. We are deeply grateful for all the beautiful stories they shared and for making us feel part of their remarkable life.
We truly had so much fun together, and I already hope we can come back again soon.

I left Nystugus a few days ago, and my time there was undoubtedly one of, if not the best experiences of my life. Nystugus is surrounded by miles of beautiful forests, filled with edible berries and mushrooms. You're constantly surrounded by all sorts of lovely animals (my favorites were the goats). I spent many days engaging in work that I found to be incredibly enriching: gardening, chopping wood, building fences, berry picking, cow herding, and much more. Tommy and Kent are such wonderful people. They are kind, intelligent, and down-to-earth. They possess knowledge and a great appreciation of Swedish culture and farm life; not much has changed there since the farm began in the 1800's. They take the time to show you the surrounding area, share its history, and teach you all sorts of things. Kent is an amazing cook; we mostly enjoyed traditional Swedish dishes, including meat stews, homemade bread, muesli, jam, yogurt, vegetable dishes, and much more. Tommy is incredibly kind and always willing to help. He took me to a lake nearby that I then swam in almost every day. They had such a fun party the last weekend before I left, and I had the chance to meet all their amazing friends, sing songs and laugh.
But know that my opinion of Nystugus is purely based on my interests and personality. If you love animals, working in nature, getting your hands dirty, living simply, and being part of the community, then this is the place for you.
Miss you both so much <3
xx Alec

I spent two weeks at Tommy and Kent's and had an incredibly very lovely time!
The main tasks to do on the farm is to care about all the animals , especially for the cows, but also for horses, chicken, goats, cats and a really really beautiful dog named Lexi :) Apart from that, I spent my working time repairing fences, chopping wood, mowing grass, repairing stuff and helping Tommy and Kent renovating the upper floor of their house. The things to at Tommys and Kents farm are really manifold, so there is always something new to do or to try out that you haven't done before. Tommy and Kent are both great at explaining everything to you, but also give you enough space to really try things yourself and to learn.
In my free hours, we were playing card games that I really liked (although I lost all the time haha), had coffee and cake or a picnic, a swim at the lake or went into the beautiful, almost magical forest to colllect berries or mushrooms. Once, Tommy and Kent took us to a flee market in the town nearby or on a trip to buy new chicken.
I can only recommend Nystugus farm for anyone ho wants to spend a great time with two awesome, kind guys!! My time is unfortunately over, but I am leaving with a feeling not only have gotten to know another two wwoofing hosts, but real friends.
Thanks again for letting me stay at yours!!

I spent two weeks with Tommy and Kent, and it was one of the greatest experiences of my life! I’ve been very interested in Swedish history and culture for a long time, and had wanted to connect with that culture and history by working on a farm in the countryside. I could not have expected just how perfectly my time working on their farm would fulfill that dream! Tommy and Kent took every opportunity to make sure that I could see all of the local historic buildings and informed me of all the history that surrounded us. I learned so much and saw so many beautiful places. In addition, the food was spectacular! They made sure I had opportunities to try many, many types of traditional Swedish food, and I loved it all! I even got to help make meatballs one night, and also a lovely wildflower simple syrup. I also loved all of the animals - the cows were a total hoot, and I was able to see 6 new baby goats arrive over the course of my stay. I loved the rhythm of the farm work and contributing in some little way to keeping this way of life going. And the landscape is something I’ll always dream of from now on. Some days when I was out working in the garden, I’d stand up and look out at the rolling expanse of forests and my heart would well up with joy. Thank you guys for one of the most perfect, unforgettable experiences! It meant so very, very much to me, as has your friendship!
