We would love to welcome wwoofers this summer to our 3 hectare permaculture farm. We have three kids, 13-17 yo, so it is important that you are nice and child-friendly.
We are a family of five that are constantly gaining new experiences in the farming life. We have lived here for 11 years, and are building our homestead/ permaculture paradise. Elin have a permaculture design certificate and education in small-scale ecological farming. She is a teacher and works in the city with a school gardening project . She is also a permaculture teacher and work with education in permaculture, gardening and poultry care and can teach you a lot if you like. Erik loves to be outdoors, and has a interest in making biochar.
We need help with the normal farming tasks, and they vary during the season. Work can be taking care of fruit trees, weeding, cutting grass, simple building or painting projects and some of the thousand little things farm life contains..
We are also part of an Non profit organisation that is starting an educational forest garden in the nearby village. Some Times we night work there or take part in community gatherings.
We have orchards, forest garden and some berries, but everything is still quite young and small. We have friends that keep their bees on our farm, and we help with taking care of them.
We are open to your interests and can be a bit flexible in what tasks you would like to do, but also have some tasks that we just need you to help with. We need you to be able to work independently, with instructions and help of course. It is important that you take good care of tools and the property, and keep the environment clean and tidy.
For your living arrangements we have a small cottage of 15 m2. It is without water and electricity, but we will try to make it comfortable and charming with battery powered lightning and possibility to charge you phone. We have a very charming tiny house with one bed of 120 cm, suitable for one or a couple. We also have a caravan with two permanent beds and one fold-out. It is possible to borrow bicycles.
Standard is simple but nice. We have an newly built out-house, and it is possible to use the washing machine in the main house.
We are a nice family and you are welcome to share some meals with us, but we also need some family time on our own. We will take turns cooking food.
The farm is located in a beautiful cultural landscape in a small and very friendly community. In the village there is a stone church from the 13th century and a grave field from the Iron age.
1,5 km from the house there is a bus stop with a few buses a day. 5,5 km away is the train station with trains every half an hour to Uppsala and Gävle. It takes 17 minutes to Uppsala by train. From Uppsala you can go to Stockholm by train in 31-39 minutes.
In the community 5 km away there is a small bathing place in a river, and a gas station with some groceries. 9 kilometers away is a village with grocery store, library and restaurant.
Organic methods: We have a small no-dig market garden, right now we are mainly growing perennial vegetable there.
We work by permaculture principles and are working with agroforestry.
Certifications: we used to be ecological certified by KRAV (greenhouse, chickens, bees, market garden and orchard). We are not anymore because of the cost, but haven´t changed much in how we run the farm.
