Forest Life and Heritage, gardening, Traditional Crafts, and Small-Scale Farming

Jämtland
In summer we let the grass grow outside our house. But there is still a lot of weeding to do.
We often have family and friends comming over. Here we made some sausage together. Farming is loving shit! The manure is the gold for growing.

We are a family who has chosen to live in the countryside, surrounded by forest, and embrace a partially self-sufficient lifestyle. We are passionate about food, art, culture, and history. On our farm, we grow vegetables and care for a variety of animals, including sheep, bees, cows, and chickens. At our farm, you can immerse yourself in our daily life, which includes caring for the animals and tending to the garden. You can also participate in gardening, building both small and large structures, making use of natural resources, fishing, hunting, cooking, crafting, creating art, or simply enjoying peaceful moments. You will meet us, our two children (aged 16 and 18), our dog, two cats, and often our neighbors or relatives who visit on weekends. We are part-time farmers and work in the nearest town to support ourselves—me as an antiquarian and my husband as a journalist. Organic Methods We Use: Reusing resources Mulching Permaculture principles Natural grazing Locally produced food Small-scale farming Fishing and hunting Harvesting wild plants Certifications: We are too small to be officially certified, but we practice ecological farming and feed our animals with organic food. Current Projects: This summer, we are expanding our crop production to grow more than ever before. We also plan to build swedish traditional fences around our gardens. Our daily activities include gardening and animal care, such as building and repairing fences, moving animals, weeding, digging, watering, and other farm-related tasks. Since food is essential for sustaining outdoor work, we share the responsibilities of cooking and household chores. If time allows, we also work on restoring our timber houses or other ongoing projects.

My stay at Lowissa and Marcus's home was AMAZING. I really felt like a family member. We shared a lot about our cultures, and lives stories. Their children are super nice, I had good fun with Norna and Primus. During my stay (two weeks) I was helping them in their everyday tasks for the farm. Here's some examples : cutting wood, picking berries, create a wooden face and gate, cook and bake together, change the fences place to create a new space for the animals, etc. Their home is magical, you can only feel at peace there. I had the opportunity to swim in the lake, have a hike, walk in the forest, visit Ostersund and Jamtli museum, etc. I had the chance to meet some of their neighbours and friends. It was great to be able to exchange with them too. I would highly recommend a Wwooffing at their place if you're looking for a real experience in sharing moments and everyday tasks together. Thank you for everything, Lowissa, Marcus, Primus and Norna. I have fond memories of our moments together.

We spent 3 incredible weeks in the Vargstugusvedjan farm. All the family and the neighbors were very kind and welcoming. It's always nice and intersting to talk with us. Lowissa taught us how to use plants from the garden for natural eating and healing. Marcus took always the time to explain the work to us and ensure our safety (“safety first!”). The work was very varied and accessible. They allowed us to discover Swedish culture and the countryside. It was an unforgettable experience, thank you again for everything, we hope to see you again !

I've stayed with Marcus, Lowissa and their 2 lovely kids for about two weeks. It was wonderful! I've mostly worked with Marcus in the forest as Lowissa didn't have her holiday yet. Both of them shared a lot of knowledge about farm life, foresting, politics, cooking and baking. They really live a beautiful life in the country side! I've cut down a bunch of small trees for making a fence, I did some weeding, helped with moving the sheep, took bark of bigger trees that were going to be used for a gate, walked with Katla (their dog) in the gorgeous surroundings, I went picking cloudberries, I went with them to Lowissa's sister Åsa where we got homemade pizza, we had an art party where we painted, Lowissa took me to Jamtli where she showed me around and where I got learned a lot about the history of Jämtland. They were warm and welcoming! Miss them already <3 Would love to come back some day!
