Hello Potential Wwoofers ! (Just a quick note that if your application is months away we might be a bit slow to reply Sorry ! ) My name is Paul, it was my dream to change my lifestyle from being an office worker to becoming an alpaca farmer.... here we are 14 years later with 100 alpacas, each individually cherishes with names and unique personalities, plus an assortment of other animals all needing our love :) I have three children: Liam (21), Dylan (9) and Oscar (6), and our 100-acre farm is home to approx.100 alpacas, plus llamas, peacocks, hens, mini pigs, a cat named Sexy, and our farm dog Malta. This year we had 15 'cria' (baby alpacas) and each one will need our help so they can thrive! We need to ensure they get colostrum (filled with antibodies and vital for good health) – have they fed from their mums within the first 24hrs? Are they then drinking enough milk from their mums every day? Are they gaining weight? The well-being of my animals is the most important thing on the farm. Do they have good feed and enough water, and the best possible natural environment? Do they have shade when required and some sand to roll in? I'm fortunate to own and rent a reasonable amount of land so the alpacas have plenty of their own space. They can choose if they want interact with us and our guests, or just relax in one of the fields or wander round in the forests. They do enjoy the pellets we feed them and look so cute when they run, jump and canter in their groups, eager for the daily feed :) Running the farm is wonderful but takes a lot of work… and then we found wwoofing! We've had hundreds of volunteers visiting over the years but the best and the most caring individuals all came via this platform. People really felt they could contribute and help me and my little family :) No day is the same here on the farm! Volunteers should be able to take the initiative and work independently when needed, as well as work cooperatively with others. During the months of June – September, on weekends and during holidays, our adjoining Bed & Breakfast can very busy and any help is greatly appreciated. I'll give you as much knowledge as I can about working with the animals especially the wonderful alpacas, farming and more. We have many locals and volunteers from all around the world, so there is plenty of opportunity to chat and expand your understanding of other cultures. Did you know there are no wild alpacas in the world? Alpacas are a domesticated camelid species with origins in South America. Interestingly, my alpacas mostly have Australian bloodlines. We have a separate space for volunteers to sleep in, each equipped with a bed, couch, desk and kitchen. In case of multiple volunteers, you may be housed in one of the other rooms inside the farm house. There is always somewhere on the farm to be by yourself if you need it. :) You can even take Malta, the farm dog, for a walk in the forest. We have a heated swimming pool, a hot tub, sauna and grill cabin. There's a beautiful large lake at the end of the road and we have boats and Canadian canoes you can borrow. We are open to the public if pre-booked via our homepage. The beautiful nearby forest is great for peaceful walks or jogs. With a variety of shops and restaurants, the town of Sala is just 10km away – renowned for its historic silver mine. There is a nearby lake with a boat and canoes to borrow and a floating sauna. Stockholm can be reached in just one hour by train for 10-15 euros. We can drive you to and from the Sala train station upon arrival, etc. We look for volunteers all year round. All volunteers must be in good health both physically and emotionally, and comfortable around other people, children and animals. It’s important we all have a “let’s do this” attitude. Self-initiative is greatly appreciated – so is positivity! I'm very much looking forward to welcoming you to my farm and family life! Paul, family, pacas and other animals. Organic methods: We try to be as sustainable as possible. We use manure as fertiliser on nearby fields to grow wheat. We have an organic garden and we use solar power to warm the water. Our drinking water and the water for the animals is ground water that is treated on site and gets tested regularly. We recycle our sewage, treat it on site and release it back into the water system without an environmental impact. Alpaca farming is organic. Certifications: We are working on a certification and are part of Västmanland's development process for sustainable and low impact environmental friendly tourism. It's farming and the weather decides.... We're unable to start untill it's warm enough for the pacas to be well without the fluff but also we need to start before it gets too warm... Wet alpacas and shearing is a no no ... :) I've written middle of May and Thirty days with my fingers crossed ! The acual task of shearing is done in four or five days. We shear the difffent groups of alpacas on diffrent days....

I spend two nice weeks at Norrängens Alpacka. The animals are very cute and nice and Paul is a very open and honest person. I always felt like I could come to him with my problems. In the time I was there there was not too much to do, so I had a lot of free time to go on walks and cuddle the cats. The tasks were various from alpaca walks over taking care of the bunny rabbits to helping in the bed&breakfast. There were also some chickens born when I was there so I had to take care of them as well. The farm itself is very pretty and the nature around is gorgeous. Even though there weren’t a lot of people coming for walks the ones that visited were all very nice and open. Thank you for the nice time

I had a wonderful time at Norrängen Alpacca. I came to the farm to help with the animals and with the shearing but also interested in the running of the B&B. I felt very welcome. I perceive Paul as a very open, generous and honest person with a lot of love for his animals which rubs off. Norrängen is a lovely place and it has also been a joy to experience and to see the visitors who come here enjoying it. I have learned a lot and hoping to find time to go back. As a volunteer I never felt pressured to do work which I was not comfortable doing, or that is not in line with WWOOF or my own incentive to come to the farm. Paul has been easy to talk to about any concerns and has been very coherent. I have felt welcome both with staff and family. It has been great fun.

Paul and the Alpaca farm were my first introduction to Sweden, and I have to admit I was really nervous the last few minutes before arriving, as I had never been wwoofing before either. When I arrived I was immediatly given a tour of the farm and I loved it. (I was there when there was still snow). I had my own little container to call home, but mostly ate in the main house with the rest of the family. There was always food, so not finding anything is impossible. My work day usually consisted of feeding all the animals first, mucking out, going on Alpaca walks and finding a way to stop the pig from eating the chicken food. A lot of fun to be had. During the weekend I would help making breakfast, welcoming guests and sometimes cleaning. A thing that was really important to me was that if I ever had a problem, I could turn to Paul and would recieve help. The amount of trust I felt I was given made my stay there very very nice. Sadly I was sick for a week, but I always felt looked after and cared for. One thing worth mentioning, is that Paul is very direct. If something is not done correctly or needs to be prioritized, he will not shy away from saying it. In my opinion it makes things easier, as I didn't have to do any guessing. Ultimately I loved my one month long stay there and I was able to take so much knowledge and personal growth home. Tack så mycket!

Paul is a really friendly man and was really welcoming, when we arrived. The house looks very cool and there is every food that you need! If you have special wishes you can just tell paul or use the „alpaka-car“ to go and get groceries on your own. His sons were really nice as well, however, they are only there for half of the time, because paul and the mother are split. Our workday wasn‘t really busy when there were no guests, in the morning we‘ve fed all of the animals, then there was some work like cleaning or moving firewood to another place and in the evening you just close the stalls. Now to the things I didn‘t like: He smokes inside the house, which made the house smell not nice. He had something with a worker while we were there and apparently he has had relationships with previous volunteers, one was 18. He sent inappropriate messages to the girl that was there with me and she felt like he was treating her like an object. (It’s not my business, but it says a lot about one’s personality how you treat women.) I have heard that he apparently takes harder drugs. As I said, he is the nicest person when he is in a good mood, but gets really aggressive when he’s mad, he even says things like “I wanna beat you up right now”, which made me kind of scared. The other girl left because she wasn’t feeling comfortable, so I left as well. I bought groceries for the whole family with my card, he didn’t give me my money back (100€) and didn’t pay the au-pair either.

Frederike. Both my family and myself were deeply saddened to read your review! .When I first read it I wanted to call the authorities as the allegations you have made are very serious. We both know that they not entirely true ! That you mention hearsay is against Woofing review policy. That you together with my Ex partner Nina choose to mix the circumstances and to write such a thing is disappointing and greatly offensive. It's so important that our volunteers enjoy their visit and that there is a mutual respect. Over the years we have had hundred of volunteers from around the world visit. We have made new friends and family members and 99% of the Volunteers have been satisfied, with there visit with many returning year after year. We have a close contact with the Wwoof country representatives and are very proud to fill the requirements to be a host with wwoof. It's so important that our guests leave with positive feelings after we have worked together and that they have felt that they have gained from their experience here with us. We work hard to ensure that the Volunteers feel both safe and secure during their visit. That you have put this into question is greatly frustrating ! I hope that you develop personally and that you find the path that fits your world one day. All the best //Paul & Family.

This was my first experience as a WWOOFer and I enjoyed it quite a lot. I cherished working at the pub, serving breakfast and dinner to guests, and I also appreciated how hospitable and welcoming they have been, both Paul and Marta
