Skogsta is a little farm breeding the old pig-breed, named Linderodgrisar. It is a slow growing pig which gives very good meat, and spend most of their time outdoor, the year around. On the farm there is also a small-scale growing of vegetables that has potential to expand. It is a 19th century farm with old buildings and the house was built 1878. Everything is taken care of with the purpose to keep the old style and feeling. My name is Lars-Göran and I have lived and loved this farm for a little more than 15 years now. slowly but surely bringing back the place into its old style and glory. This is also in made in combination with breeding ecological pigs and taking care of the old garden. Renovating or taking care of those buildings is also a part of the life in Skogsta as well as the cultural exchange. Located nearby the city Vasteras, but in a truly rural landscape. Organic methods: Pigs eat only ecologically grown food. Certifications: I have a very small farm and I have neither had the financial resources nor the time to undergo a certification. It is in the plan though. In the house there is also a small BnB, where serving traditional Swedish farm-breakfast is one of the tasks. However, this is only for information as wwoofers are not allowed to participate in businesses like BnB, Tasks such as mking breakfast for guests, cleaning, making beds are handled by the host. Current projects: Restoration and fixing the old barn and some other buildings It can be painting or simpler tasks. These kinds of work is also made in accordance with sustainable and historical methods. There is always some work with fences and the sheds for the pigs as well as other things regarding the pigs. Taking care of and developing the old garden with style from 1880 A typical day, starts with feeding the pigs in the morning, checking fences and makeing sure they have a comfortable and happy situation. Then it may vary from day to day depending on weather and what projects that are on the agenda. Food is made in the large kitchen and wwoofers are of course welcome to participate in the cooking and bring new cultural influences on this. Internet access is available in the house.

Our 2 weeks in Skogsta will always be cherished. Going into this experience, we weren’t sure what to expect as it was our first time WWOOFING, but it quickly became one of the most memorable experiences we’ve had. Lars-Göran made us feel so welcomed, cared for, and truly part of the farm from the very beginning. Every day brought a new experience, adventure, and opportunity to learn something new. Thank you LG for creating such unforgettable experience for us. 🍾

A few days ago, I applied to Skogsta Gard. The owner was kind enough to send me an acceptance really quickly. As usual, you apply to several farms during the search and hope for success, which I honestly informed him about and asked for some time to consider. In the end, I accepted another offer and was unfortunately met with a lack of understanding and unfriendliness after the polite rejection.

My goal is to treat every wwoofer with respect and understanding. The unfriendliness was that I wrote ”this lack of information is not encouraging for a host”. Clear and open information, accurate bookings and polite when cancelling. Happy wwoofing!

I spent one amazing month with Lars-Göran at Skogsta. He is a very nice and funny person and a great cook. He was very open and motivated to teach about the culture and share interesting stories. The house is very beautiful and cozy, the surrounding barns and the garden are nice as well. The main task every day was to feed the pigs in the morning and clean their boxes. The rest of the day was filled with tasks like harvesting potatoes, cleaning and painting the barn and fixing fire wood. In the evening we often cooked together. There was also a lot of free time to walk in the forest, bike to nearby lakes, explore the city and cuddle with the animals. The pigs are adorable, especially the small ones we got in the middle of my time at Skogsta. There is also a lovely and very cuddly dog and adorable cats. I really enjoyed my time here and would love to come back one day. Thank you so much.

Staying at Lars-Göran’s farm was one of the greatest experiences of my life. Even though I sometimes had difficulty understanding English, everyone at the farm was so kind and patient. I especially enjoyed feeding the pigs, helping to organize the barn, and harvesting vegetables. I also had the chance to take part in Swedish cooking and festivals, which made the experience even more special. The dogs and cats at the farm were very friendly and lovely to be around. During my stay, I learned a lot about the importance of cultivating food and producing meat in a thoughtful way. Thank you so much for this wonderful experience!

My time at Skogsta was truly an unforgettable experience. Since it was my first time traveling alone, I naturally had some reservations at the start. But from the moment I arrived, I was met with such welcoming energy and encouraged to be my truest self on the farm. During my two weeks there, I learned so much about Sweden and gained valuable insight into swine farming in a different country. An excursion into the forest brought new challenges and some adventurous four-wheeler maneuvering unlike anything I'd imagined possible. I am deeply grateful to Lars and Skogsta for the knowledge, perspective and life insight gained during my stay.

I had a great time here! A typical day starts off with feeding and watering the pigs, then continues on with various other tasks around the gardens and property. It was so much fun getting to know the pigs’ different personalities, and the property is absolutely gorgeous. There’s a couple of bikes you can use to explore the area, and Lars-Göran has plenty of helpful tips of beautiful areas nearby to explore on your days off.
