Welcome to us! We live on a small farm in Julita, Södermanland, about 1.5 hours by train from Stockholm. We grow food mainly for our own consumption and are planning to develop a CSA, community supported agriculture. We supply ourselves and our neighbours with vegetables, berries, fruit, mushrooms, eggs, and honey.
We keep chickens for eggs, bees for honey, sheep for landscape management, and we have a dog and a horse for our own enjoyment.
During the winter we have been busy chopping wood and thinning the woodland. Plans for the summer include fencing for the sheep and horses, preparing and maintaining beds for vegetables and flowers, restoring windows, painting houses, rebuilding the old root cellar, and establishing a completely new hop garden. We also fish as much as possible, as Lake Hjälmaren is rich in crayfish, perch, pike, and walleye.
We welcome helpers in June, July, and August. We are looking for people with a genuine interest in ecological vegetable growing and caring for the environment. You do not have to be young, but you should be fit and healthy. An extra bonus is if you enjoy working with animals.
Accommodation is simple but comfortable. We have two small workers’ cottages close to the main house. Each cottage has an old-fashioned kitchen, a fireplace, and a bedroom for two people. If two friends arrive together, you can share a room. If you arrive alone, you will have a cottage to yourself.
Most of the work is related to vegetable growing in the garden and greenhouse. Tasks include planting, transplanting, weeding, tending plants, and harvesting. We also pick berries, apples, mushrooms, and vegetables, and preserve them by making jam, pickles, and by drying or freezing. This summer there will also be work such as preparing beds with manure, maintaining the greenhouse, preparing the pond for bathing, fencing for sheep and horses, feeding animals, riding and working with the horses, forestry work, caring for animals with offspring, and general gardening.
The working schedule is six hours per day, Monday to Friday. Evenings and weekends are free.
For recreation, Lake Hjälmaren is about 15 minutes away by bike and offers swimming, boating, and fishing. The surrounding woods are ideal for walking, jogging, or longer hikes. Stockholm is easily reached by train in about 1.5 hours. If you enjoy horseback riding, there are many beautiful forest paths to explore with the horses.
We prepare vegetarian food and enjoy exchanging recipes with our helpers. Cooking is shared, and WWOOFers take turns being responsible for meals.
Please contact us if you would like more information. We hope to see you this summer and welcome you to join us.
Organic methods: We use a combination of traditional and modern ecological methods. All our practices are environmentally friendly. For manure, we use residual products from our own animals and from our neighbours’ horses, chickens, and sheep. We always keep the soil covered, especially during winter, and reuse all plant material from mowing and harvesting to enrich the soil. In the kitchen, we use the bokashi method to turn food waste into fertile soil.
Certifications: We are not certified, as we only sell honey. Our honey is quality-marked by the local bee association.
