Small-scale farming with organic cultivation on two small farms in a village in southern Dalarna.

We are Sofia and Anna, two neighbours living on two small scale family farms located in Arkhyttan, a nice village in the middle of the beautiful agricultural landscape of the south of Dalarna.
We welcome WWOOFers together to our two neighbouring farms. On both farms we have farm animals (sheep, chickens, ducks, rabbits and cats) as well as organic vegetable gardens and greenhouses. We are inspired by several organic cultivation methods such as permaculture, forest gardening and holistic management.
We believe that working together makes life more fun, and often arrange working days together with our neighbours to help out on each others farms and projects as well as an yearly open plantmarket.
You will be helping us with house projects (renovation, building, painting), in the gardens and take care of the animals.
SVENSKA:
I vår lilla byn i Södra Dalarna har två småbrukargårdar beslutat sig för att ta emot WWOOFare gemensamt. Ni kommer alltså att få delta på de två gårdarna. Bostad i egen lägenhet i närheten av gårdarna.
På den första gården bor sedan åtta år tillbaka en familj tillsammans med höns, ankor, kaniner, får och katter. Småbruk för självhushåll med ekologisk grönsaksodling inspirerat av permakultur. Här lever vi ett jordat liv och odlar vår mat, bedriver arbetsgemenskap med grannar och vänner, ordnar årliga plantmarknader och en och annan kurs/workshop. Vår strävan är att gården är en mötesplats för alla som vill skaffa och utveckla kunskaper om hur vi kan leva av marken, utan att förbruka den.
Vi har under åren tagit emot många volontärer och har egen erfarenhet av volontärarbete via wwoof i Frankrike - en mycket god erfarenhet som gav oss inspiration att göra flytten från Stockholm ut på landsbygden.
På gården kommer ni att få hjälpa till främst i arbetet med odlingarna och en del djurskötsel, men även en del andra sysslor som hör till gårdsarbetet.
Den andra gården där vi som är dina värdar bor en familj på fyra personer. På gården finns även farmor och farfar.
Vi håller på att starta upp ett litet andelsjordbruk så det mesta arbetet kommer bestå av att förbereda för grönsaksodlingar. Vi har även några får, höns och katter. Vår ambition är att kunna producera mat och vårda den mark på ett sätt som bygger upp jord, gynnar mångfald och utan att använda mer resurser än nödvändigt.
Vår by har ca 200 invånare, nära till badplatser och naturområden, 7 km till närmaste mataffär, utegym.

Sofia was so wonderful as was our experience. The farm was so lovely and Sofia and her family were so welcoming. We really felt a part of the family by the end! Cannot recommend an experience at Malarns enough and can’t wait to return one day!

I had a great time with Sofia and Anna. During my stay on the farm, I got to live in my own little Swedish house. I worked with Anna for one week and with Sofia for another week. We did a lot of weeding, planting, and sowing. I felt very comfortable and welcome. This was my first time Wwoofing, and it was a wonderful experience. I get great insights into Swedish families.

My 2 weeks stay in Arkhyttan was my very first Wwoofing experience and I could not have imagened it any better. I worked at two small farms : Malarns (Sofia) and Söderlund (Anna). We were two wwoofers and cut the grass, plucked weeds, fed the sheep, the chickens and the rabbits, harvested vegetables, picked berries and a lot more... and chopped wood, which was my highlight. We could always ask for a break, if we needed some and had delicious meals in between some working hours. We also had nice shared activities like visiting the small Knäckebröd factory near the village and the moose park nearby. There is always a cat you can pet ;)
But you are also free to have some time for yourself. Sunday was our day off.
I had really nice conversations, learned some swedish and met a lot of nice people from the village. I'd love to come back in the future! :)

Those were intense yet magical days. The work was meaningful and toning, the people were friendly and welcoming and the place was like a piece of paradise. I was volunteering at the same time as Luise, who always was very respectful and easy to get along. Together we performed a variety of tasks, from weeding to renovating the former guest house, but the most fun of them was probably chopping wood. With us were some friendly cats and other animals such as rabbits and chicken. On one of the last days we had a barbecue with many nice people from the neighborhood and we also got engaged in a short but fun drawing evening. Hope to be able to return with the time comes =).

I spent a wonderfull week at these 2 farms. First 3 days I was at Anna's, next 3 days were spent at her family's place celebrating Midsommar and last 3 days I was at Sofia's. We pulled weeds, watered, planted, cut grass and more. Meanwhile we cooked delishious food, took many swims in a nearby lakes, played funny games and many other activities. All in all I enjoyed the stay here a lot, it was my first wwoofing experience and it absolutely exceeded my expectations. Big thanks to Anna and Sofia and I can definitely recommend this.
