We're a semi-retired couple who've been living and working on our hobby farm in beautiful north-east Skåne since 2018. We enjoy our rural lifestyle and the beautiful nature around us, and there are always plenty of things to do outside around the property. Our 2.5-hectare property includes a heritage orchard of 140 trees, mostly apples, some pears and cherries. We like to look after the trees and make apple juice and cider for ourselves, neighbours and friends. It is not a commercial orchard. We also have an oak forest that we work in, clearing weeds and maintaining the stone walls and fences. We grow some food for ourselves in our vegetable garden and small glasshouse. We have 2 border collie dogs, Willow and Maid, and 7 chickens. Depending on when you come, following are some of the activities you could participate in: Gardening, weeding, forestry, fencing, firewood, helping with the chickens, harvesting apples, making apple juice and cider, pruning. During summer you can stay in the cabin guest room, which is 12 meters from our house. You'll have your own bathroom which is located inside our house. We like to share the cooking and cleaning chores and are happy to accommodate vegetarian diets. However, if you have another special diet (vegan, gluten-free, lactose-free etc) it would be best to bring some of your own food. Outside the summer months, you can stay inside our house and will have your own bedroom and bathroom. A typical day could include 5 - 6 hours helping us around the property, including looking after the chickens, gardening and maintenance. We take WWOOFers for 7 day stays including weekends. A typical week would include 5 working days per week. Simon renovated our house and likes to do timber projects in his workshop. He also likes cooking and baking. Sarah has a small business organizing craft workshops and likes to weave in her spare time. Our area is surrounded by old apple orchards, forest and lakes, and is perfect for bushwalking. We like to walk our dogs daily around the lake, which is a great swimming spot in summer.

I had a wonderful two weeks here. Sarah and Simon were incredibly welcoming and patiently listened to my imperfect English. I worked from around 9 a.m. to about 3 p.m., with breaks for fika and lunch. I was lucky to help with making apple juice, which they only do once or twice a year. I also harvested potatoes and gathered branches from the apple tree pruning. All the meals were delicious, and the homemade bread and sweets were amazing. After the day’s work, we relaxed with some snacks while watching Netflix or movies. They know a lot about Lund, so I was able to enjoy my days off there as well. I had a comfortable and lovely time in their warm home with their adorable dogs.

Sarah and Simon are very warm, inspiring and generous people who made us immediately feel at home upon arriving. The daily tasks consisted of weeding, clearing the forest, fertilizing the apple orchard (often with the company of two friendly border collies who love to play). We also attended to the hens and got to learn the process of wax-making using beeswax from their own hives. Living in a charming and rustic cabin close to the main house was comfortable and offered a bit of seclusion. The surrounding landscape is beautiful and the lake nearby perfect for a swim after a days work. Our time at Ekebo offered many lovely dinners, coffee breaks, interesting discussions and insights concerning rural life as well as life in general. As first-time woofers, we were very thankful and happy to stay with Sarah and Simon and hope to get a chance to visit the orchard again soon!

We spent our very first week as Wwooffers at Sarah et Simon’s place, and it couldn’t have started better. The cabin we stayed in is very comfortable and their house is a real beauty, as is the rest of the property. Throughout our stay, we helped Simon finish his car port, cleared part of the forest, paved around the glasshouse, took care of the chickens, weeded the garden… and had lots of fun and interesting conversations over a glass of wine or delicious spritz cocktails prepared by Sarah. Thanks to Simon who taught us how to bake bread and made us delicious milkshakes and coffees ! Meals were always a great moment to spend together, and we really enjoyed the movie nights. A special thought to Maid and Willow, their two dogs, who were such nice cuties full of energy <3 Thank you again for your kindness and the way you made us feel at home! See you very soon, Lorie & Matteo
