Small farm close to the mountains with goats, chicken, bees and vegetables
Jämtland
We are a small farm located in northern Sweden, close to the majestic mountains. On the farm, you’ll find Kristina and Johan, their children Majken (6 years) and Bo (2 years), and Johan's mother Monica. We also have goats, chickens, honey bees, and a cat. In addition, we grow vegetables for our own use.
Our vision is to care for nature and animals as naturally as possible, leaving the smallest footprint on the earth. Our buildings, dating from the 1700s and 1800s, have been carefully renovated by Johan using traditional preservation techniques.
Our goats and chickens roam freely on the farm from spring to autumn, living off what grows naturally in the soil. During the summer, we also tend to our bees and harvest honey in August. We grow vegetables primarily for household needs, such as potatoes and cabbage, but also tomatoes, chili, cucumbers, and more.
This season, we will focus on starting up a dairy in our old barn. That means to finish the building and start the business (and hopefully start making some cheese). This is in addition to the daily work with the animals and growing vegetables.
We offer accommodation in our cozy guest house, which has a bed and a stove. You will share bathroom, and kitchen with Monica. We enjoy sharing meals together, but you are also welcome to prepare your own food if you prefer so.
A typical day on our farm begins with letting out the goats and chickens. We then spend our time on various farm projects, such as maintaining the buildings, sowing, watering the crops, tending to the bees, picking berries, or handling other tasks that need to be done. We also ensure the animals have food and water. In the evening, we make sure all the animals are safe and secure in their shelters.
In your free time, there is plenty to explore in the surrounding area, such as hiking in the mountains, fishing, swimming in lakes, running, camping in the forest or the mountains. You can also visit Sweden's largest ski resort, Åre, or the larger town of Östersund, both about 70 km away.
We welcome those who are eager to learn new things and perhaps bring new knowledge to our farm.

They were very kind and hospitable people who quickly welcomed me into their farm life. I was given a lot of freedom in choosing the work and how I carried it out. There's plenty to do: in the garden, with the chickens and goats, and also carpentry on the buildings and outbuildings. You sleep in your own little cabin and can either eat with them or cook for yourself. It's a truly beautiful place in a stunning region, where you can enjoy wonderful walks and be in the mountains or at the large lake within half an hour. Monica knows all the best places. We've exchanged a lot of knowledge and experiences. I hope I've been able to make a valuable contribution to all the work. I'd love to come back and see how the barn and cheese dairy turned out.
Thank you for everything, Monica, Kristina, Johan, Majken, and Bo. If you're ever in the Netherlands, you're very welcome to visit our farm. See you soon.

I had a great time in this family farm ! Monica, Kristina, Johan and their children are very open and welcoming. I discovered many aspects of the farm : taking care of the goats and chickens, collecting honey and preparing the beehives for winter, doing more general work in the barn, collecting berries, spending time with the family. I learned how to milk as well as many recipes ! I had a lot of room in choosing my projects and schedule. I could also take free time to walk in the surrounding forest, enjoy the sauna, hike in the nearby mountains or visit Östersund. It was my first wwoofing and I would totally recommend !

We had a great time at this family farm in the heart of beautiful Swedish nature. Monica showed us what it's like to run a small farm, and we enjoyed all the different activities. We made friends with some goats, learned how to milk them, and then used the milk to make cheese and ice cream each week. We swam in the river that ran through the farm and picked mushrooms and berries in the forest.
On our day off, we went hiking and kayaking nearby and even saw some wild reindeer. Overall, our experience was magical, and we hope to come back someday!
