Welcome to our little farm tucked away in the woods, somewhere between Värnamo and Växjö. My wife and I moved here seven years ago, and now we live here with our two children, aged 6 and 3, along with goats, bees, hens, and cats. We run a market garden and grow a variety of vegetables, which I deliver weekly to subscribers. This is my only job, and I dedicate a lot of time to the farm while aiming to balance work and leisure. I usually work about 35 hours a week. My wife work as midwife on the hospital in Växjö. On the farm, we have a 200 m² hoop house where I grow tomatoes, cucumbers, and peppers, as well as an open field of around 2000 m² where I cultivate about 30 different types of vegetables. I have a two-wheel tractor for mechanical help but a lot of the work is done manually and can be quite physically demanding. You will work alongside me sometimes, but you’ll also have tasks to complete on your own. I expect you to work six hours a day, Monday to Friday. I’m happy to share my knowledge and explain why I do things the way I do. I also handle the farm’s accounting and can show you how I manage the business side of things. I will prefer those woofers coming in pairs rather than alone. I’m looking for woofers eager to learn about running a small-scale vegetable farm. But anyone who wants a cheap vacation with some heavy duties and new perspectives are of course welcome! May and June: Preparing beds and transplanting seedlings, which we start in the hoop house nursery. Sowing will be done in trays and directly in the field. July: Focus on weeding with hands and tools, harvesting, washing, and packing vegetables for delivery. We start vegetable deliveries in mid-June. Other tasks include watering, mowing, and tending to plants in the hoop house. August: Mostly harvest duties during august and september. Last weekend in august we have a open farm weekend in the surroundings. Accommodation and meals: We offer three housing options: A private room in our house with two beds. A larger room in an older house on the farm. Space in the garden for a tent or a wagon. Breakfast is self-serve in the kitchen, and we eat lunch and dinner together. We expect you to take part in household chores, like preparing meals and cleaning the kitchen. We’ll plan meals together, and we’re happy to accommodate most food preferences. Since we have small children and may share living space in the house, it’s important that you enjoy being around kids. We have many projects going on at the farm such as restoration of pastures, planting an orchard, cutting hay with scythes, construction and maintenance of buildings, preparation of firewood and many other things. When I’m not working, I spend time with the kids, cook, play football, brew drinks, take trips (often to swim in nearby lakes), and hang out with neighbours and friends. Every Thursday, we have dinner with friends, which is always a highlight of the week. I like discussing history, politics, culture and all sorts of bigger picture topics. Welcome with your application!

We had an incredible time at Grantorpet! Elias and his family were the perfect hosts who made us feel welcome immediately. The farm is so picturesque and especially the nature that surrounds. Being able to drive to the lake after a day of work to cool off was definitely our favourite part. We also really appreciated how he tailored the work to our interests, energy levels and weather which made the experience all the more enjoyable. There was never a task that we found too hard or strenuous. It didn't take long at all for us to feel like a part of the farm and the community as we were introduced to lots of friends and family with whom we ate and played games with. In short, it was a wonderful experience in a beautiful place with the kindest people. We highly recommend this farm for anyone interested!

I had a wonderful experience woofing with Elias. Upon arriving his wife and small children were very welcoming as well. Accommodations inside the house were very comfortable and meals were always wonderful as well. The work on the farm was varied and interesting and Elias frequently checked into see if I was enjoying my task or if I wanted to try something else. There is a good balance of working directly with Elias and having some time on your own. When working with Elias I really enjoyed our many conversations and got to learn a lot about Swedish culture and society. The surrounding area is also very nice with lots of lakes to go swimming in, easy access to trains to larger cities, and beautiful scenery.

Our stay with Elias was absolutely wonderful, we could never have imagined such a warm and generous welcome. From the very beginning, we were fully immersed in the family and quickly formed a deep bond with them. When it came to the work, Elias always took time to clearly explain each task, and he made a real effort to vary the activities (weeding, harvesting, seeding, etc.). He also shared the reasoning behind his methods, which made the experience not only enjoyable but also very educational. The work was always manageable and fulfilling, and we never worked beyond the agreed hours, except occasionally to finish something up, which we wanted and were happy to do. Outside of work, Elias introduced us to some amazing local swimming spots near the farm, which we visited regularly after our working days. Cornelia and the children were also incredibly kind and welcoming, it was truly a joy to spend four and a half weeks with them. We could go on and on, but we’ll just say this: if you have the chance to WWOOF with Elias, don’t hesitate. It’s an experience we’ll never forget, and we feel very lucky to have been part of it. Thank you again for everything, Elias! Tristan & Théo, France
