Welcome to our little farm tucked away in the woods, somewhere between Värnamo and Växjö. My wife and I moved here seven years ago, and now we live here with our two children, aged 6 and 3, along with goats, bees, hens, and cats. We run a market garden and grow a variety of vegetables, which I deliver weekly to subscribers.
This is my only job, and I dedicate a lot of time to the farm while aiming to balance work and leisure. I usually work about 35 hours a week. My wife work as midwife on the hospital in Växjö. On the farm, we have a 200 m² hoop house where I grow tomatoes, cucumbers, and peppers, as well as an open field of around 2000 m² where I cultivate about 30 different types of vegetables. I have a two-wheel tractor for mechanical help but a lot of the work is done manually and can be quite physically demanding.
You will work alongside me sometimes, but you’ll also have tasks to complete on your own. I expect you to work six hours a day, Monday to Friday. I’m happy to share my knowledge and explain why I do things the way I do. I also handle the farm’s accounting and can show you how I manage the business side of things. I will prefer those woofers coming in pairs rather than alone. I’m looking for woofers eager to learn about running a small-scale vegetable farm. But anyone who wants a cheap vacation with some heavy duties and new perspectives are of course welcome!
May and June: Preparing beds and transplanting seedlings, which we start in the hoop house nursery. Sowing will be done in trays and directly in the field.
July: Focus on weeding with hands and tools, harvesting, washing, and packing vegetables for delivery. We start vegetable deliveries in mid-June. Other tasks include watering, mowing, and tending to plants in the hoop house.
August: Mostly harvest duties during august and september. Last weekend in august we have a open farm weekend in the surroundings.
Accommodation and meals:
We offer three housing options:
A private room in our house with two beds.
A larger room in an older house on the farm.
Space in the garden for a tent or a wagon.
Breakfast is self-serve in the kitchen, and we eat lunch and dinner together. We expect you to take part in household chores, like preparing meals and cleaning the kitchen. We’ll plan meals together, and we’re happy to accommodate most food preferences. Since we have small children and may share living space in the house, it’s important that you enjoy being around kids.
We have many projects going on at the farm such as restoration of pastures, planting an orchard, cutting hay with scythes, construction and maintenance of buildings, preparation of firewood and many other things.
When I’m not working, I spend time with the kids, cook, play football, brew drinks, take trips (often to swim in nearby lakes), and hang out with neighbours and friends. Every Thursday, we have dinner with friends, which is always a highlight of the week. I like discussing history, politics, culture and all sorts of bigger picture topics.
Welcome with your application!
