Two family homes in Stjärnsund, southern Dalarna
Dalarna
wwoof 2026 applications are open now. :)
11–17 May → half the time in each place, working togheter with the hosts.
12-28 June and 6-21 july → oppurtunity for independent working volunteers .
3 - 30 August → half the time in each place, working togheter with the hosts and some times more independently.
We are two families, Villa Älvsborg and Fläckemyran, offering an opportunity for volunteers to visit both our small family farms in Stjärnsund, a picturesque village in southern Dalarna. Because May (preparing the lands with sheep manure, sowing, cover with cut grass) and august (harvest, planting trees, digging, picking and conserving, making marmalade/juice/pickles etc) are hectic periods in our gardens, we would like some help. It is more fun to do things together and easier to focus as well when you get help.
In both households, we plan to work with WWOOFers for 5 hours per day, 5 days week. The WWOOFing workdays may sometimes be on weekends.

About Villa Älvsborg
We are a Swedish family consisting of Ylva, 39, Fredrik, 46, two kids and a cat. We grow vegetables in our spare time for self sufficiency. Ylva works remotely on the computer (in the social enterprise sector) and Fredrik run his own business with focus on natural continuity forestry and some carpentry. We have a big house with many guests rooms, a small garden with a green house and space for cultivation. About half of our cultivation space is at our neighbours farm, where some neighbours have a kind of household farming community.
Fredrik grew up on a farm in northern Sweden and Ylva grew up in a city, but went to a organic farming school for one year when she was 19. We have been growing vegetables ever since.
Ylva and Fredrik likes music, hiking in nature, volunteering for NGOs, hanging out with friends and relatives. Ylva practice yoga and ecstatic dance and Fredrik plays guitar. The children likes dance and K-pop (speaks a bit Korean), soccer and sports. We live next to a lake where we like to go swimming and by a pilgrimage route where we like to go for walks. Our language at home is Swedish, but adults are fluent in English and the kids speak a bit English too. Ylva speaks Spanish.
We have a couple of guest rooms in our house. Food and kitchen will be available for you to prepare for yourself or for us to prepare together or for each other (depending on if our preferences match). We mainly eat vegetarian food and our schedule for the time to eat is adapted to the children’s day rhythm.

About Fläckemyran
Matilda and two cats live at Fläckemyran. Sometimes my husband Rasmus and our two kids (12 and 8 years old) are visiting as well. I work remotely as a writer and artist, and at the same time I am in the exciting early stages of creating a forest garden, planting a variety of fruit trees and bushes. We enjoy art and yoga and spending time outdoors in our spare time, and the kids like reading and painting.
The house was built in 1850 and has a rustic charm with clay walls, natural water sources, cozy fireplaces, and a small bathroom. There will be guest rooms available for the volunteers.
In addition to the forest garden project, I am transforming at least half of the vegetable cultivation area into perennial no-dig beds. This transition is still in its initial phase and requires some dedicated weeding to create a strong foundation for long-term success. :)
During these weeks, our focus will mainly be on taking care of the beds, but also on planting and supporting fruit and nut trees.
Breakfast is usually enjoyed individually indoors, while lunch and dinner are often prepared together in the outdoor kitchen. Cooking and cleaning are shared responsibilities.

We had a fantastic and memorable time here with Matilda, Ylva, and Fredrick. We split our time between the two homes and we enjoyed both experiences. At Ylva’s we made rhubarb juice, rhubarb casserole, worked on reconstructing the garden beds & did planting for the season. It was a fun day of hard work, with juice and ice cream breaks! Ylva even made us a picnic lunch so we could go on a bike ride on our day off.
At Matilda’s, she threw a wonderful pot-luck garden party. We loved getting to know her friends and learning about the Swedish culture. We did a lot of weeding & bed preparation for the season. Matilda was so appreciative and ensured we had lots of juice and coffee breaks. We had a fantastic experience with these two families and would highly recommend them for anyone who wants to experience the wonderful Swedish countryside community. Thank you for everything!
