Farm with wilderness camp, forestgarden and courses in meditation
Södermanland
Hello!
We are Niklas and Märta, a young swedish couple and a new born baby who moved into an old farm outside of Flen, Sweden one year ago. This is a beautiful and old place in the heart of the oak-forests with rich wildlife and magical lakes. We are curious, easygoing, creative and calm people who enjoy meeting people from all over the world. Currently it is us three, 8 vhickens and a rooster and three lovely cows on the farm. We are growing fast!
Here we work on building our dream; a forest garden with plenty of fruit, nuts, berries and vegetables, building a center for holding retreats and courses and to make space to craft and work on creative projects such as wildlife camps, hide tannery, art studio, etc. We love handcrafting in traditional ways, live close to nature, fish, canoe, and more.
Since we are new on the farm, there is a lot of ground-work to be done. A typical day would include to take down trees, collecting branches in a pile, digging holes, planting trees, putting up structures, as well as watering plants, pulling weeds, moving soil and compost, and tending the animals... when the calves come in the summer there will also be milking and dairy preservation projects. there is a lot of variation in the tasks because of the many projects we have. We also make sure to share the household tasks such as cooking and cleaning.
In the morning after breakfast, we have a morning meeting to go through the day. We eat lunch and/or dinner together, but please be prepared to eat alone (either we cook for you or you cook for yourself or for everyone - we always provide the ingredients and food ot course), because we might not always be present as we also have jobs outside the farm.
You will sleep either in the common house in a private room or a semi-private space, or in a simple guest house/room which is next to the chickens, so you will be neighbor with them. The guest house and private room has two single beds if you travel as a couple or friends or could be prepared to share a room with another volunteer.
In the summer it is possible to live more primitively in a tipi or safari tent and we can then arrange a matress and blankets inside it. Mostly, the common house is open to use, where there is warm water, normal toilet, shower, etc. But this is not always guaranteed, because we use the house for other things too, so be prepared to also have to live the simple way with a compost toilet and outside water (cold) or the sauna, for washing.
We both like handcrafts like traditional hide tanning, bushcraft, food preservation, and Märta likes to sing and play music and to paint as well.
Nearby, well, right outside of the window, is a beautiful and big forest with a rich wildlife, mushrooms, berries, beautiful lakes to walk to (we also have a lake on the farm). We have a sauna which you can use, and canoe to go on the lake with. There are also interesting places to visit within 7-20km, for which you can borrow a bicycle.

My stay at the farm was amazing, the place itself is beautiful and the work was so diverse it could always fit my needs.
Niklas and märta are kind hosts, they are considering and caring.
They are people with a lot of knowledge and skill and are happy to share and teach.
it is hard not to feel at home there.

During our two weeks with Niklas and Märta, we learnt a lot about life on a farm: we were responsible for the chickens, planted trees and helped to convert an old cowshed. Life with them is characterised by mindfulness, good communication and a good community of everyone who lives on the farm for whatever reason :) Thank you for the good time, we learned a lot! To everyone else: we can only recommend Niklas and Märta as hosts, for experienced wwoofers and newbies, too :)

This summer I spent three weeks at Niklas and Märtas beautiful farm and had a really wonderful experience. Both of them are kind, mindful people, that know a lot about the culture and the nature around and are happy to share their knowledge, which I appreciate a lot! :)) During my time on the farm I was doing many different tasks on their beautiful piece of land, which brought variety into everyday life. Both during work and in my free time I always learned new things and met many nature-loving people. Niklas and Märta made me feel really welcomed and appreciated and the communal life felt uncomplicated and warm-hearted. Thank you both for the beautiful time and I can't wait to be back! :))

I stayed two awesome weeks with Märta and Niklas. Both of them did everything possible to make me a great time. I learned so much in my time between a beautiful lake and the forest from carving bowls and spoons, making fire with a bowdrill, collecting and preserv wild plants, food preservation and even how make leather. I meet so many beautiful people there and would recommend their farm to everybody. The time on this farm will probably be the best on my whole trip through sweden.
