Ox-powered market garden and cow sanctuary
Stockholm
Hello! Our farm is a small organic market garden located near Stockholm, Sweden. My name is Angela (33) and I run the farm full-time with the help of my partner Uttam (41) and our two oxen, Madhu and Chandra. We are environmentalists, animal activists, and are dedicated to the sustainable stewardship of our land.
Every morning and evening we milk our two rescued cows by hand. The cows and oxen are the center of our farm. The manure they create becomes the compost for our vegetables, the oxen help us with farm chores, and the cows provide a surplus of milk and cream. WWOOFers can expect to learn all aspects of compassionate cow care and have many interactions with our calm and cuddly companions.
We grow vegetables for the Stockholm Farmers’ Market which runs 12 weeks from August through October. We focus primarily on heirloom tomatoes, pumpkins, squash, beans, pots of herbs and whole chili plants. Although we also grow a diversity of other vegetables including radishes, kale, turnips, leeks, cucumbers, etc. WWOOFers will be involved in all garden tasks such as seeding, transplanting, and weeding. Those who visit during market season will also join in harvesting and potentially selling with me at the market.
We offer incredible homemade vegan and lacto-vegetarian meals and desserts. Uttam comes from an ethnically diverse family and enjoys cooking Indian, Spanish, and French cousine. Throughout the summer we love making pizza from scratch in our wood-fired stone pizza oven. With all of our cooking we only use non-violent milk products from our own cows - milk, yoghurt, butter, ghee, cheese, and cream. We are happy to adapt to vegan WWOOFers. For breakfast we provide homemade breads, jams, milk/cereal, etc.
WWOOFers will stay in a small simple one-bedroom cabin next to our family home. Everyone shares the kitchen and bathroom of the house. Our house and guest cabin are about 1km away from the garden and cow barn. Please note that we do not allow the cooking or consumption of meat products in our home.
Nature lovers and city goers will thrive at our farm. It is located beside a forest nature reservation with hiking trails. There is a gorgeous lake with a perfect swimming beach that is within a few kilometer biking distance. We also live 4km from the commuter train that goes into the heart of Stockholm (about a 40 minute ride). We are happy to loan our bicycles and offer rides to the station.
We are close friends with several other farms in our area and there may be possibilities for visits and field trips. From large conventional dairies to anthroposophic biodynamic farms, our area has a high diversity of agricultural operations.
This is our first season opening our doors to WWOOFers! I was a WWOOFer myself and will apply my previous experiences to provide a positive learning environment. We welcome WWOOFers of all races, nationalities, genders, religions, and sexual orientations.
I would especially like to invite artists and trades workers to visit us. We have many building projects going on and Uttam and I build everything ourselves!

Staying at Angela’s Farm was my first WWOOFing experience and I could not have hoped for a better one. I was welcomed in her home with open arms, got to know her family and left feeling like I was a part of it.
I got to do many different things and learned a lot! That included working in the garden, for example: weeding, moving the chickens, picking vegetables and loading everything up into the van for the market, covering beds and ripping out dead plants. Because I was there in autumn we slowly started to prepare the garden for winter.
I was also a part of caring for the cows, that means: milking in the evening, where I learned to milk the wonderful Sunny, feeding all four cows, cleaning out the barn and always feeding Tilak the cutest cat ever.
Another advantage of being there in October was being able to attend the Farmers Market in Stockholm with Angela where I helped and could also explore the city.
When we didn’t work I had free time to walk around the neighbourhood. Angela always offered to give me a ride to the nearest train station and if a car was free, that was another option to explore.
All in all, I can say that Angela and Uttam are wonderful, kind and caring hosts. They made me feel like I have a home there and for that they will always have a special place in my heart. I am looking forward to seeing them again! <3

We spent a week at Angela's farm, during which we stayed at a cabin near Angela and Uttam's house. We enjoyed delicious Indian cuisine and picked some mushrooms growing in the forest behind the house. We would help Angela in her garden every day before lunch and then spend some time with the cows and oxen - Sunshine, the head of the family, friendly Madhu, curious Chandra and timid Marigold. We learned a lot about cow-keeping and farming, especially zucchinis, tomatoes and pumpkins.
This was a great and positive experience. Angela explained everything carefully and patiently, which was very valuable to us, as we would like to have a farm of our own in the future. If you love animals and nature, this is definitely a place for you.
Thank you and we hope to visit you again!

We were welcomed with open arms! Staying with Angela, Uttam and their family is such a nice experience we can recommend to anyone. Angela works with you, explains a lot about her work and gives you real insight. The working hours are really fair and tasks vary mostly. We learned about taking care of the veggies, harvesting, animal care, cheese making and so much more.
We loved the conversations during mealtime and of course the excellent food!
There is also a lot of nice nature with trails around and the lake was definitely a highlight.
Thank you for letting us feel like part of your family. ☺️

I had a wonderful week and a half at Angela's farm!
It was my first WWOOFing, but I felt welcome and comfortable from day one.
Angela very spontaneously made it possible for me to stay on their farm and still took the time to sent me all the important information in advance .
We usually discussed the evening before what we wanted to do the next day and when it would suit us best. They were always very considerate towards us and our wishes.
We usually worked on the farm for a few hours in the morning, then had a long lunch break and then continued working.
During work, we mainly weeded, harvested vegetables, sowed new plants, transplanted or watered. But there were also other tasks to do, such as painting a cupboard, cutting trees, etc.
In addition, each working day ended with bringing the cows and oxen into the barn, feeding them and milking the cows.
It was wonderful to learn so much about the animals and to see what a peaceful life the rescued animals are able to enjoy here.
During lunch breaks and after work, there was always wonderful warm, homemade food. They took all our special requests into consideration and were happy to teach us new things in the kitchen.
We always had interesting, fun and open conversations on various topics.
Angela also took the time to go on excursions with us on some days (other farm, swimming lake, the sea)
They really took a lot of time for us, were open to questions and treated me with great respect.
I look forward to visit them again!

I was at Angelas farm for one week and it was really amazing! There were a variety of different tasks ranching from weeding, watering and little construction tasks to looking for the cows and oxen and milking! With Angela I had really interesting conversations about farming and the soil and I even got the opportunity to dig two soil profiles which was really interesting!
I felt really much welcomed into the family for this week and I really enjoyed the conversations I had with everyone.
Also the place is super cool with very diverse people around and of course the beautiful lake that was mentioned.
So if you are looking for something in this region of sweden I can totally recommend this place!!

We truly had the best time at Angela's and Uttam's farm. They are incredibly welcoming and kind people!!
The tasks were very doable and mainly included weeding, watering plants, planting and harvesting in the garden. Angela and Uttam shared share many tips about vegetable growing. In the evening we looked after the rescued cows and oxen. They were an absolute highlight for us, very friendly and living their best lives! The farm is a fantastic opportunity for anyone who wants to work with animals but does not want to support conventional animal farming and exploitation and wants to learn about compassionate animal caring. We also loved that Angela's and Uttam's approach to farming is based on sustainability.
While having lunch and dinner together (Uttam cooked incredible vegan meals) we always exchanged stories and discussed various topics. The beautiful lake, which is easily accessible by bike is a big plus as well. Thank you so much again for everything!!
