Permaculture homestead with focus on biodiversity and berry farming.
Värmland
Hello and welcome to our profile page,
I am Claire (25) and live together with my husband Michel (26) and our dog.
We are living and thriving on our permaculture homestead in the "Finnskogen" in Northern Värmland.
A big vegetable garden provides us with most of our food, but our focus is mainly on improving biodiversity and with that the resilience of our food systems.
We have a group of sheep that i love very much, as well as a few geese and chickens.
Permaculture in our context means building forest gardens with hundreds of different berry bushes and lots of perennial vegetables, digging ponds, building habitat in the form of brush and stone piles etc...
We are hoping for woofers that have an interest in permaculture, homesteading, rewilding. Taking control of a piece of earth and improving it, making it more resilient and healthy.
Our activities depend on the season.
Typically in the morning we first feed all the animals or bring them to their pastures.
We practice rotational grazing and in the summer every morning could start with a 1km walk with the sheep and the dog to bring them to different pastures.
This spring we will plant around 80 additional berry bushes, so that might mean digging small holes amending with compost, planting, watering, mulching etc.
Building Greenhouses, making firewood and building sheep fences is always taking up our time when we are not roaming around our vegetable garden to look at all the different insects, birds, toads we can find ...
Theres so many more activities depending on the season or what we feel like and most importantly what you feel like doing.
Right next door to our house we have two vacation houses that you can chose from depending on availability.
We would eat lunch and dinner together. We like to cook according to the season and including meat from our own animals, but have no problem cooking for vegetarians or vegans as we were vegan for five years before starting our own homestead.
Our property borders on a lake with a sauna. Theres lots to do if you like animals, dirt, hiking, forest, good food and nice people.
We also have internet so theres that!
