Hej!
We’re looking for people who would like to be part of our farm Glädjefrid – with it’s animals and garden – while also enjoying the breathtaking nature on the island Orust on the Swedish west coast.
We run a KRAV-labelled certified organic farm with chickens, sheep, cows, pigs, ducks, goats, working horses, dog and cats. We grow vegetables, take care of a forest garden and welcome overnight guests who are looking for peace and relaxation. We also run courses, workshops, guiding internships and have a farm shop with art and craft, our own homegrown and homemade products.
Our focus is on living sustainably – growing as much of our own food as possible, becoming self-sufficient and improving biodiversity. Permaculture, regenerative and biodynamic farming are very close to our hearts. We believe in living with mutual respect, following our inner path and taking care of Mother Earth.
The whole family – two adults and five children – is very much involved in the work and all of our projects. The children study or have studied at Järna Naturbruksgymnasium, Sweden, and support the farm with their knowledge of organic and biodynamic agriculture.
We discuss, plan and work together, depend on each other. You will become part of our family and life on the farm.
There is daily routine work that needs to be done, but also other tasks that come up depending on the season and unexpected situations.
Farm work: Making hay, building fences, mucking out and feeding the animals.
Gardening: Planting, weeding and preparing growing beds for flowers and vegetables.
Forest work: Cutting and stacking firewood, planting trees and bushes.
Building maintenance: Keeping our buildings in good condition – painting, renovating barns.
So choose the area (or areas) you would like to work in! The most important thing is that you enjoy what you do and do it with joy, positive energy and enthusiasm.
Respect, responsibility, reliability, honesty, loyalty, flexibility and integrity are our core values – and they need to be yours too.
Please keep in mind that much of the work is physically demanding!
We work together for around five hours a day, although this may vary depending on the task.
Also remember that the climate on the west coast can be quite harsh. Rain gear and layering are recommended!
You can stay in our “Chicken House” or in our “Wheel House” – two small cabins equipped with a bed, a stove and a small kitchen. A simple toilet and shower are located by the barn, and you will always have access to the main house. We provide everything you need for breakfast, lunch and dinner. You can prepare breakfast and dinner yourself, and we eat lunch together. We cook seasonally and locally, using our own vegetables and our own meat. Everything we buy is organic and fair trade.
About us:
After running a private school based on the Montessori pedagogic in Switzerland for more than twenty years, we decided to move to our summer house by the amazing Stigfjord on Mjörn, Sweden.
That’s where our journey began – taking care of our animals, fields, vegetables and grazing land in the middle of a nature reserve with archipelago islands, old oak trees and the typical Bohuslän landscape. The 15 hectares on Mjörn are now used as summer pasture for our cows and sheep, and for our hay harvest.
In the summer of 2025, we took over our dream farm, Glädjefrid – Joyful Peace. The farm is located half an hour from Mjörn on Orust. It includes 34 hectares of land divided into fields, forest, coastline, cliffs and a unique restored wetland.
We love being outdoors – in the forest, in the mountains, around a campfire, out at sea in a kayak or a sailboat, picking wild herbs, berries and mushrooms, and doing crafts and handiwork.
You are warmly welcome to become part of our adventures.
